| I'm curious how many on here carry? I'm getting ready to go practice and test for mine through a womens shooting league this week. I've shot plenty of times out here just target practice on our old dirt pile and I pretty much suck lol! So I'm hoping these ladies can help me out! I'm a tad nervous to be honest. But from what I've been told the ladies are all awesome and the woman who puts it on is a police officer wanting to educate as many women as possible. Wish me luck!! |

I agree, we really have to pay attention to our surroundings at all times. When we go out to eat I like having to beable to watch the door to see what/who comes in.. So protecting ourselfs is a very smart move. |

Location: CTX | We both got our permit years ago and I carry most of the time. the only time I don’t carry is when I go to work. Seems weird, but working on a military installation we are not allowed to carry weapons.... I always have pepperspray and a taser in the truck along with a baseball bat... someone wants to hurt me, they darn sure are going to have a fight on their hands... and like someone else said, in a restaurant I try to keep my back to the wall, and sit where I can see the door. Go get your license and find yourself a nice little handgun that you are comfortable handling. I have a 9mm auto and a 38special revolver that I can carry concealed, but prefer the 38s. If I get in a pickle I want to make sure my weapon doesn’t jam... so the revolver it is. I honestly feel naked now when I leave the house without it. I hope that I will never have to use it, but would not want to be caught without... |

However, with the influx of illegals things are beginning to change with way more frequent shootings in the north end of Wichita where they hang out which is also the ghetto area. The border situation is a crisis. Once they cross the border they can go any place they want to by bus and we're seeing more and more of them in our local stores. Please folks, don't practice shooting around your neighbor's homes. If ever I feel the urge to kill, it's because of someone shooting near or at my home. It's perfectly legal in our county but it's still wrong.

We always thought our little community of Sutherland Springs Texas was a quite and safe place to live and go to church, untill a crazy man shot and killed 26 and injured 20 during Sunday service in a small church.. Who would have ever thought something like this would ever happen in Sutherland Springs..

At our local grocery store, a young man came in one day with a very large gun attached to the front of his belt. It wasn't in a holster of any kind, just attached like you would a cell phone on the side of your belt. I had no idea whether this was legal or not but it looked a bit scary. |

I understand. It was just something you never ever saw in the area where we live particularly in a public place. A co-worker is married to a cop and he explained that if there's a holdup the guy with the open carry weapon is going to be the first one shot if the bad guy has the advantage or if he had very little intention of actually shooting anyone. Concealed sounds way smarter.

| I'm not going to open carry. I bought a purse that has a compartment for a handgun. That's how I'm going to roll anyway. And im going to have my hubby install a clip to hold my gun under my steering wheel in my pickup. I travel alone, a lot. Open carry doesnt bother me it's just not what I want to do. I've seen plenty around town that open carry. |

I don't mind at all. I have a Sig P238 .380 that I can carry in the small of my back if my shirt is untucked. Most times I carry a little .22 mag revolver in my right front pocket. I even rope and run barrels with it in there. It's a cool little gun that has a notch in between each cylinder for the hammer. It WILL NOT fire unless you cock the hammer first. It's what my husband calls an "up close gun". I usually have a .40 Glock and or .38 revolver in the house/truck as well. |

Either the small of my back or in my right front pocket. I've tried an ankle holster, but it feels like it would be too hard to get to in an emergency (to me). I also tried the flash bang holster, but I've got too dang much going on up there to begin with, lol. |

I carry inside the waistband, most of the times on the right hip. Depending on the jeans I wear it might be more towards the middle of my back, or more to the side. The thing I love about the 38s, is that it has an enclosed hammer, so it can't get snagged on clothing. Recently I ordered a waistband to carry but I haven't used it yet. I don't really do handbags anyway, but if I did I'd still be wearing on my person. A bag is so easy to get away from you. |

However, they are trying to pass a bill where it is NOT required to take any training or pass any tests and not necessary to purchase a permit to carry. I STRONGLY disagree with that - I feel EVERYONE should have to pass a background check, the tests and have some training. I don't feel every individual should be able to carry and surely don't want to meet some on the street. I'm becoming a real hermit - just too scary to go out almost anywhere anymore. The problem I have with background checks is, who decides what is okay? Is depression of any kind a mental illness? A kid arrested at 18 for pot? How about an arrest on felony charges but they were dropped because they were unfounded? Who decides? ) |

I'm sure I could pass right now, I just know I would probably do more harm than good with a gun in a sticky situation. We keep talking about doing a range day double date with my husbands cop buddy and wife for fun but we never get around to it. Such is life with kids. |

| I have a 40 cal. glock and a 380. The glock is a little to big for me to carry comfortably so I carry the 380, usually in my right front pocket. It has a safety that I can easily disengage while still in my pocket. I'm affraid that in my scatter brain-ness I would leave my purse somewhere, that's why I don't like to carry it there. Plus when in a parking lot or like place I can easily have my hand in my pocket while walking. I keep the glock in the truck while traveling then in the living quarters while staying in it. |

I'm torn between the Glock 43 and a Smith and Wesson MP9 with the performance center. The only thing I hesitate with the Glock is because there is not a safety. Thoughts? |

| I plan on using my husbands SIG for my class. I like it, I'm familiar with and I'm getting more comfortable handling it so most likely thats probably going to end up being mine when it's all said and done.. I'm one of those types that if I get comfortable with something, I dont want anything else. Or as my hubby calls it close minded lol!!! But when it comes to a gun i don't think there is anything wrong with sticking to what your are comfortable and CONFIDENT in using. |

Proficiency comes into play with this scenario. Glocks do not have a safety period. The Operator IS the safety. I do not carry nor own Glocks. What I carry and own has a safety on the device. However, 'I' am still the Safety first and foremost. |

This I get. I was raised around firearms and am practice safe handling measures every single time I handle a firearm. I also teach my children this. I get than no glock has a safety. What I am asking is if a person feels better having an additional safety measure on a gun such as a thumb safety. As a mother with 2 kids I not only keep my firearms locked up, but I look at all worse case scenarios. I'm not trying to start a debate on safe handling, which is better etc. I came asking a question looking for an answer. So, now I remember why I don't come over here very often. |

Glock 17 on duty, Glock 43 off. I'm torn between the Glock 43 and a Smith and Wesson MP9 with the performance center. The only thing I hesitate with the Glock is because there is not a safety. Thoughts? The standard for ANYONE carrying is: Carry what fits One's Hand and One is comfortable and proficient with. I agree. I like the feel of both and they are as close in size, fit etc. I'm asking about safety vs. no safety. I understand everyone has a personal preference.

I guess if I am stuffing it in my pants or have it loose in my purse then I think I need a safety. If I have a holster then I dont feel like I need one. Accidents happen but good holsters and grip or trigger safeties can make all the difference in the world. Dont buy a cheap junker |

| Safety or no safety is personal preference and your personal situation. The SIG I use doesnt have one either. I'm perfectly comfortable in that. I dont think anyone here was being snarky at all. You can ask the question over and over of which is better and get a different answer from different people.. it all comes down to personal preference and what the carrier is comfortable with. There is no wrong or right answer to that question. Its what will work for you and what you feel confident with. :-) |

I carry the 9mm because it has a safety and I am very comfortable with it. I LOVE shooting our Glock 43, but no safety so I will not carry it. I practice flicking the safety off when I shoot so I can easily flick it if I get in a tight and need my gun.... practice AND having a plan are VERY important if you carry. And, of course, having the gun where you can get your hand on it quickly. |

I prefer Glocks over another brand that does have a thumb safety for the simple fact that seconds matter. Yes, I get that perfect practice makes perfect performance in regards to muscle memory and disengaging the thumb safety while drawing the weapon. I was issued a Barretta 9mm in the Marine Corps and hated it. In a high stress situation, you're going to lose fine motor skills. Action will always beat reaction, but it really boils down to personal preference. Ultimately safety is going to boil down to how well a person handles the weapon. If you feel safer with a thumb safety, then carry a weapon with a thumb safety. None of my handguns have a thumb safety and I prefer that. I also keep them all locked up since I've got my kiddos running around. |

foundation horse made an excellent point. I in no way feel he was attacking you. When it comes to firewarms, it is always a good idea to take what everyone says to heart. Especially the experienced and the past or current military members. I don't personally know anyone that carries a Glock and when I say nearly everyone in WY carries, I mean pretty much if you are of age, you carry a pistol. My pistol of choice is a revolver. I have speed loaders, but that is what I have shot and handled since I was 6 yrs old and I am comfortable with it. I think one of these days I'll try and get handy with a semi auto but for now I love my trusty s&w revolver. |

And I carried speed loaders as well. This was in the 80s. Now, I carry a semi auto with LOTS of extra mags. 9mm |

Yes it's a .357! foundation horse I may chat with you later about semis to carry. My dad has just about anything out there, so once I narrow it down I can practice with his before I buy. I have small hands/short fingers, so that might play into it. |

Location: Arizona | I carry, but don't need a permit to do so in Arizona. Plan on getting a CCW in the near future though, mostly for buying purposes. My bf was a small arms weapons instructor at one time, and he's done a good job of helping me feel more comfortable handling firearms over the years. I didn't grow up in a house with guns; my step dad had a pistol that I rarely saw, and I never touched or shot it. So Nintendo's "Duck Hunt" and the Red Rider BB gun I got for Christmas when I was 10YO were the only firearms training I had until I was about 25, lol. |

| We have a house full of guns. My kids dont even look twice at them, they know they arent allowed to touch ANY of them unless we are helping them. All my kids have hunted and got deer for our freezer so they are pretty educated on gun and gun safety. The great thing about this league I'm joining I can bring my 14 yr old daughter on league nights and she can shoot with me. League nights are for ladies only, we go twice a month for range time with the instructor. |

Yep that's the one. Hes a truck driver and goes thru Laredo a lot but his company doesnt allow their drivers to carry... unfortunately. Wish they'd change that for the licensed drivers anyway. I suppose it's just too much of a liability for the company though. He doesnt carry but a bunch of drivers always say I'd rather be fired than dead.. I agree! |

Location: NE TX | I have my TX LTC and I carry a Sig Saur P238. It comes with a magazine that holds 6, I purchased the extended magazine (it is designed for 7) so that there is a place to rest by little finger when holding and firing. I also carry mine 7+1 (loaded, chambered with a full magazine of 7).
I was super nervous for my LTC class but the instructor was really cool and helped calm my nerves.
When I practiced before my test I practiced at the distances the test would be done at and shot at a paper plate. If you can shoot the paper plate you will hit the center of the target. It was a trick my grandparents taught me when I was practicing for my test and not just goofing off at the house anymore.
I don't have any of the insurances cause most of the time if I travel it is for work and I travel by plane and TSA frowns on bringing a gun on the plane for some reason lol. |

How awesome, I know shooting can get addicited, I dont shoot, but hubby has a big deep pit in my back pasture that hes got his table in and he and some of his buddys use it all the time for target practice. You and your sister in law need to start making a girls day out to go target practice when you get a chance too.. Sounds like you might be starting a new hobby. |

You and your sister in law need to start making a girls day out to go target practice when you get a chance too.. Sounds like you might be starting a new hobby.
Yes! We went ahead and signed up for the womens league while we were there. They meet twice a month for a ladies shooting night then they all go out to eat after. I'm kinda excited because I literally have zero friends out here that I see on a regular basis, so this will help me get out and meet more people! Everyone was so nice at the range. We are going to shoot more than that though.. we both have a good dirt pile we can target practice on in our pastures. Theres so much I want to improve on already, I think being in the range next time without the pressure of having to pass a test will be a lot better for me lol! I didnt know I could load that gun so fast! We were only shooting 5 rounds at a time so I was constantly reloading. We spent 5 hours in the classroom and honestly it flew by because she was so entertaining and full of really cool police stories. I had a handful of some bobbles but for the most part I was pretty happy with my shooting! First time in a range setting. I was able to shoot the gun an hour before we left the house so I could get rid of the jitters. I somehow managed to hit dead center twice in a row lol! |

And im going to have my hubby install a clip to hold my gun under my steering wheel in my pickup. I travel alone, a lot. Open carry doesnt bother me it's just not what I want to do. I've seen plenty around town that open carry.
Food for thought... Being in a compartment inside your bag; how are you going to reach it, draw it and fire when its needed 2 seconds ago? Not to mention your fright factor slowing you down in a emergency/ life threatening situation. If you are going to carry you need to have it ON YOU, and be very comfortable handling it. This goes for everyone, not just you specifically. If you get hijacked and someone grabs your bag.. guess what. They now have your bag, money AND your loaded gun.. My dad is in law enforcement and a firearms instructor. This is always a discussion. Practice drawing your gun, never leave it or store it where someone else can get it and know your abilities. Don't be an armed victim. |

Yes. After I took that class I'm not going to keep it in my purse. I'm going to find a holster that I can keep on me. That was suggested by the instructor. Makes perfect sense! |

Holsters are like saddles, there are a ton of em to choose from. All about personal fit and preference. |

This gun has such a stiff trigger, I'm very comfortable with it not having a safety. There's no way in h*ll the trigger will be pulled accidently. |

| @ Chandler's Mom: Your husband made a wise choice Glock, is probably the most reliable semi-auto pistol in history and it is extremely durable. I have a couple of Glock 17s (the next size up from your 19). You can buy a 33 round OEM magazine from Glock that will fit the 26, 19 and 17 models. It's a good idea to carry a couple in your glove box, just in case a crisis arises...better to have more ammo than needed than to not have enough. |

It's actually want2chase3's husband that did so well!!! I haven't gone the pistol route yet; my parents both have their permits and Sean is on me quite frequently about getting ours since we do travel often. . . (I'm afraid I couldn't but the broad side of a barn with one--I'm more use to rifles!!) |

| Here comes the wild scary dreams... ugh. Someone please tell me this is normal! I'm trying to defend myself and my gun wont fire, my bullets just fall to the ground lol! Doesnt help my hubby has been gone all week so it's just been my 3 kids and I at home. I dont sleep well at all when hes gone, I'm constantly up, checking doors and looking out the windows. We live way out in the country. I'm wanting to teach my kids a plan in case something ever went down... their rooms are on the other side of the house from my bedroom I know my big lab would let me know if someone was outside trying to get in. Obviously I need to get more confidence with the pistol, I've got "big Bertha " right by my bed, (shotgun) but these dreams are making me crazy!! I guess it was those 911 recordings we listened to in the LTC class about peoples homes being infiltrated and these people having to shoot the intruders. Scared the crud outta me! |

Get you some Solar motion sensor outdoor lights and put up a few around your house, I have them up around my house and chicken pen, I have a big coyote problem and this has really help keeping them out of the yard and I would think if anyone was snooping around and a light hit them they would not stick around.. |

That's a great idea. I definitely need to do this on the sides of my home and it wouldn't hurt to do the chicken coop. We got hit pretty hard not too long ago by coyotes.. got a mess of my chickens and my guard goose. The coop gate didnt get secured all the way and they pushed their way in. |

Take a woman's self defence class.Find someone that includes using firearms. You will find that having big berths next to your bed could be useless.A self defence class will give you several different ways to deal with different situations, including protecting yourself without a firearm if you can't get to it. |

| There was actually a lady in my ltc class and she told us a story about how she had been assaulted in a rest stop by a very large man. She told us she was trained in MMA and he grabbed her from behind she elbowed him and dropped him, she then put him in a choke hold till he passed out. She put his hands behind his back and sat on him until someone came along... turns out when the cops got there they ended up arresting her for assault! She said the magistrate ended up dropping all the charges on her when she told him the story. She was in the class to get her concealed AND get the Texas Law Shield insurance so she will be protected while shes protecting herself! |

We have several of the solar motion lights around our property! Love them! Also, hubby found one with a solar panel with a long cord -- he installed the panel outside the barn and the light is installed inside the barn -- so it pops on inside the barn as soon as I open the barn door -- which is very nice. It scares the critters off prior to my walking inside and turning on the regular lights. (I have had a very bad skunk experience so I'm all about the critters leaving the barn before I walk inside.) |
