That being said, I heard a report that he had a music record coming out and wanted "publicity" and "recognition" for sales, which "maybe" makes more sense. Still a pitiful excuse for the stunt ..... Hopefully, he will be prosecuted and certainly have to pay restitution to the Chicago Police Dept. for time and money spent during the investigation.

His legal team is doubling down on his innocence and seem to be strategizing to attack the system - leaks and press conference presenting evidence, no due process. Chicago PD needed to take that step to present this to the public for the fraud it is.  This is a very volatile time and his cowardly selfish act could have incensed real violence.

I don’t buy it was over salary either but I think it was for publicity.    I have to believe that if there were others who prompted him to do this that they would’ve advised him better on how to cover it up.    I’m not buying into the  conspiracy theory.    This story reported he may 20K and episode but current reports estimate low six figures per episode.   That high figure doesn’t mean he was happy with that but I think he was trying to just draw attention to himself for the publicity and to launch his music career.

I immediately thought: "What is a celebrity like Jussie Smollet getting food at a Subway and walking home by himself in Chicago at 2am "(or whatever time it was.)  AND, if he was attacked by two guys looking like this, he'd have way more than a small scratch on his cheek that disappeared within 2 days.  And he's still pleading innocence.  Sad for me, EMPIRE was one of my most favorite shows - I'll not be able to watch it again knowing of this deception.  Shame, shame, shame.
