I am in Ohio and our whole program is based around Driftwood. I read the book The Driftwood Legacy in the early 2000's and it changed my whole way of thinking---before that it was speed speed speed, but had trouble keeping them sound for the long haul. Nothing more frustrating than spending all that time on a colt only to find they do not have the soundness or the mind to handle Barrel Racing. Once we went to Driftwoods all these problems were gone. They need a job and once you give them one --let them work.

Love the Driftwoods. Our breeding program consists of crossing driftwood mares on great barrel sires. I have had some wonderful money earning horses out of breedings like this. My baby's are easy to work with, smart, athletic, have the great bone & feet that driftwoods have. I'm proud of them all, but the one I am most proud of was LR Designerwood. He won so much for Blake & Traci Monroe. This was him.

There has been more successful Driftwood horses in professional rodeo than any other line.  It is the most versitile line in rodeo as well.

Here is just a short list of them (not all inclusive at all).

What % do you consider driftwood breed.

I bought my self a filly who im told is 16% as a yearling she can sure fly out in the pasture. Can hold her own against my faster broke horses.

I bought her for a ranch horse prospect. And because I was sad over a crappy breading and foaling season lol.

Age old saying that they need to be 10% or higher to have any effect---if that helps.

This filly, picture from last fall as a yearling, is the result of a long term Driftwood plan that was almost 20 years in the making. She is by our Lone Drifter son--PC Lonewood Special and out of a daughter of PC Frosty Jay Jay---bot Driftwood studs.

You should be very proud! Maverick was a standout horse, wherever he went. Absolutely broke my heart when they lost him. He was one in a million!

I have a PC Joes Frost out of a Lone drifter daughter and she is COOL. Only 5 this year but plan to season her. She had the pattern down in less than a month and that was inconsitent. She has been the easiest horse I have ever trained and super athletic. However, like someone said, give them a job and let them work. She tries very hard and she learns very quickly but she gets ticked when you pick at her. She doesnt make a wrong move unless you drill her then she lets you know that she gets it, likely you dont.

Thank You 6.2  So do you call them Driftwood bred ? Must be like all the Three Bars bred horses or Easy Jet bred horses.

Personally, I don't think they need called anything. They have both left their own mark and people are calling horses FG Bred or Dinero bred.

But, I do not really consider them Driftwood bred. I have a Sun frost son that I do consider Driftwood bred but he is out of a double bred Driftwood mare.

I don't think they need called anything either but when speaking of genitics that are long gone I was cerious what made a horse "driftwood" breed, Ive seen people market them as such with 6% up to 25% was cerious where people felt comfortable calling them driftwood is all!

I bought my filly because I like her structure she looks fast and strong and able to work all day long.

We were heart broken when blake & traci lost Mav. They have a 1/2 brother to Mav that they bought from us before Mav passed. He is by Eddie Stinson & Mav's mom, Miss Cowboy Lady. Blake is doing a great job with Simon. After watching simon exh, I see so much of Mav in him. His style is just like Mav's was. Traci told me, she sees Mav in Simon.
