Looking for some recommendations for a stud for this mare. She is all cutting bred so I think I would like to stick with cow bloodlines but add a little height sinces she's only 13.3.

I would prefer a junior stud as this foal would be kept and not a resale project. I care more about conformation and brains than I do earnings or big names. This mare is a hot head so something on the calmer side would be ideal. Under $1500

One Fine Vintage. He is a little more than $1500 but his owner usually gives wicked early booking discounts so for next year.

Third Cutting! He is $2000 but I think he is worth the money.
Several of his offpsring have proven themselves in the barrel pen.

I'm in love with Lil Spoon.   I also really like Hired Gun and Metallic Malice of Melanie Lowrance.

I'm not sure any of those guys would add much height though. Cowhorses are usually pretty compact.

I love him and his babies. He has quite a few running barrels. Their black stud (Nics Little Bud) is also incredibly nice.

They've got a Metallic Cat stud as well named "Armani Cat" who isn't listed on the site but holy smokes. I ran a half sister to him in 2014 (pitcured) and that mare was the epitome of talent. If you facebook search his name, his owner should pop up with his breeding info.

Metallic Malice all day long... 15 hands homozygous roan so guaranteed to get a roan plus put together perfect and smart well minded stud... he also qualified for aqha world show in 5 events this past year - he’s an amazing athlete ... and if you go to his fb page you’ll see his owner recently posted videos working the barrels on him.

I would never presume to know anything about putting breeding pairs together, but Reys  Dual Badger is nice.   He's in the right price range, but I couldn't find how tall he is.   I've liked him for years. . .

Was about to suggest him! A friend of mine bought a mare by him and she is a salty barrel horse. I have saw others by him as well that look pretty darn promising.

I am really in love with my Hired Gun yearling stud colt.  Hired Gun is about 15hh, our mare is 14.3, and we expect our colt to be right about that size range.  He's a spit fire though.

I also really like Sixes Sixgun as a stud I've personally been around.  I've never met a quieter, nicer stallion.  My friend's 11 year old daughter was riding him around at a team roping the first time I saw him.  He was at Crofoot Ranch and was sucessfully campaigned...he's now in Kansas--currently being stood at Kansas State University.  Stud fee is a very reasonable $1000.  BUT...he is NOT tall.

Wounder why they all went down. Even third cutting was early booking of 1000 for a while I saw.

I don't check this year's prior to posting. It was posted 15 last year. At any rate its still quote a bit above the ops budget lol.

I'll admit Mamas Duel N at Boon (Dual Rey x  Mh Bodees Starlena, by Bodee Boonsmal, earner of $343k) has caught me eye and kept it lol I drool any time they post videos of him on FB. They've been doing tie-down on him and he's pretty quiet from what I've seen posted. I believe this year is his first foal crop. 2019 fee is $1000 including 1st chute/shipment. GBED carrier. I also really like the breeding on Shining Cat (Shining Spark x High Brow Cat), $500 fee plus chute. Herda Carrier. He has a full brother that I really liked, but he was exported to Brazil lol If you haven't tested your mare for the 5 panel yet, I'd do so before breeding. My mare is n/n so thats why these boys made it to my list. Also love Metallic Malice, but he's moved out of the price range.

I like Sixes Pick, and his son Guthrie City Limits looks a lot like him. The Four Sixes also has Wagon Stake who looks like a nice older stallion. Try the stallion registry directory, they have a wonderful variety to choose from. Some I saved for the future included CR Highlight (High Brow Cat x Grays Starlight), Lenas Sugar Prince (Lenas Sugarman x Smart Chic Olena), This Guns for Nic (Nic It in the Bud x Katie Gun by John Gun), Hes Wright On (Lenas Wright On x Reminic), Roosters Wrangler (Gallo Del Cielo x Freckles Hustler), Steppin on Sparks (Jacs Electric Spark x Wimpys Little Step), and Gotta Gold Chain (Jacs Electric Spark x Nu Chex to Cash). I don't mind the cross of reining on cow. I'm a sucker for a horse that can handle reined cowhorse, so that might be why lol. My mare I have in foal right now is very quiet but can get a little hot and I usually refer to her as cowhorse bred because her sire produced more reined cowhorse than anything else, and her bottom half is ranching with a sprinkle of racing lol She's in foal to a foundation bred stallion. I have a Playgun granddaughter who is "cutting bred" and she's on the hot side. Most the studs I mentioned probably won't have a lot of progeny owned by the forum here, so it might take a little more research to find out traits. I will say I've seen some exceptional horses out of the Shining Spark, High Brow Cat and Nic It in the Bud bloodlines in the barrel pen if that's what you're leaning towards.

For sure, and I thought it was higher as well (until I checked). I thought also that his fee was going to increase due to him being purchased at a record price by his current owner.

If I were going to cross on a cowhorse stud.  I'd make sure that it is one that is already a proven crossover option.  Paddys Irish Whiskey and Sixes pick are probably the only 2 I'd dare try.

I am breeding my running mate to TR Dual Rey this year. Third cutting was on my top 4 list (I was bidding on a scholarship auction)...I got my breeding at a good price, but the chute chutes fee is pretty high.

Look at Thomas e. Hughes, he is my plan for my next one!

Lots of great recomendations already. I will add my friend has a couple coming from Davis Ranch studs this spring including this one- http://www.davisranch-d.com/html/stallions/magneticat.html

She said they were super easy to work with which really matters when shipping. She said they gave her a dscount too.

I have a daughter of Nemolena (Peptoboonsmall X Marcellena) https://www.dlrranch.com/stallions.html He stands for just their farm fee. She's pretty short but solid and she is an absolute machine. Lots of feel and speed. I'd take ten more of her if I could.

A lot of the Cat Ichi's have more size and bone to them than most cowhorses and the daughters I have been around have plenty of speed.

I mention this horse pretty much every time cowbred studs come up, but I really like Ranger Cookie. He's a son of Playgun, has earned a boatload of AQHA performance points himself, and is out of a mare that also has a ton of AQHA points. My boyfriend's rope horse is a Ranger Cookie son, and we have been incredibly impressed with him.

PG Dry Fire, Hired Gun, and Metallic Malice are all very nice too!

I'm partial to Playguns because you do usually get a little more size (15 hand range) and they tend to have speed. I just saw the post with your mare's papers though, and I see she is already bred similarly.

Smart Chic Olenas sometimes have a little more size, anyone know of any SCO bred studs siring barrel horses? I've seen some One Time Peptos with size as well.

I have had some very good luck breeding cutting bred mares to reining stallions. They place size and work well with the cowhorse build my mares have. If you are looking for a Junior Stallion I that would produce a foal that can go any direction and have great size and a perfect personality I would recommend Captian Barbossa who stands with Silver Spurs. He will put some size on the foals. I LOVE LOVE LOVE and so does everyone else who sees and interacts with my Barbossa baby. Here she is at 3 months I believe.
