My mare needs sugery to remove a keratoma. I have price estimates between $500-1,000. Does anyone have experience with this? What did it cost, and what was recovery like? I'm in north central Kansas. Recommendations would be appreciated, as my local vet does not perform the surgery. Thanks

I had one horse that he had an injury on his foot and then a keratoma develop  My vet at the time said it was the biggest that their vet clinic ever took out  it was in the front of the hoof and went up past his hairline!  The cut it out!  he had a huge hole! and it filled back in hairline and all.  you couldn't even tell that he had a tumor or injury and it was super deep.  I had to use their shoer and I cant remember everything but I used that shoer for almost a year and when it heal so much shoer put somekind of filler and it grew out and he just filed away like it was the hoof.  I thought this would have fixed his problem but it didnt.  He never limped or anything on foot before or after. The biggest deal with any surgery is the part or them laying them down and them waking up!  Praying for yours!
