What do you all use to treat thrush? My horse is out on pasture and has a run in, but it's been so wet here (In SW Virginia) he has thrush. It's not terrible, thank goodness, but I've been picking his feet out every day the past week and have applied thrush buster twice. He's not lame and it's not terribly deep, but when should I notice results? Should I have a vet look at him and give me something more effective? What do you all do?

I've always used bleach  =] My vet just says to keep it clean, and apply bleach every other day or so.

Thrush buster won't knock it out completely out in my experience.  Try Tomorrow (mastitis treatment for cattle).  It works fantastic, and comes in a handy syringe so its super easy to get in the grooves around the frog.

^^ I agree with Tomorrow for cow mastitis.  It's so easy to use (no soaking) and works!

We have been battling what we thought was minor thrush since last summer.  The Mastitus treatment is what I was told also.  My other advice is to keep up with the treatment.  We have one horse that has intermittent thrush symptoms since last summer.  It finally has gotten to the point where her it got so severe that she has to have bar shoes to support her frog and heels.

I agree with the Tomorrow cream, it is fantastic! The No Thrush powder is my go-to for maintenance. This combo works wonders and without harming the non-infected hoof tissue.

Making sure your horse is getting enough zinc, copper and manganese in relation to the amount of iron is also essential for hoof/soft tissue health.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I'll try the Tomorrow cream first and the others if it doesn't do the trick. How many times should you apply it? 1 tube amongst his feet every 2-3 days and do it a few times or? And obviously keep his feet clean! His fronts are the main feet affected, the backs aren't too bad.

One application of Tomorrow and 2 days, and either I'm crazy or it's working that fast?!

OP, so how did you apply it? I'm ordering some for my horse after reading this thread. A whole tube per application? Are you applying again now that it's been a few days?

After cleaning out his foot, I applied it deep in the affected areas/crevices and held his foot up as long as I could. I used most of 1 tube on his fronts and probably a quarter or third on his backs and just recapped that tube!

Central sulcus thrush-- tomorrow for sure!

I use the blue kote spray all over the foot during wet conditions to help prevent any thrush. Easy to spray and cheap!
