On the advice of the Bluebonnet nutrition rep I'm taking a leap of faith and going grain free! My horses have been eating mostly hayrite alfalfa cubes and just about a lb and a 1/2 of BB natural blend. For some odd reason they started leaving a lot of the grain in their feed buckets and would just push it around to eat the alfalfa cubes. Looking at the info on the BB NB it's one of their highest starch feeds, my horses dont have any metabolic issues or health issues but we decided to get away from that all together and I only had about a half a bag left anyway. I will throw it to my chickens, they love it lol! BB was so helpful and really took the time to give me a quick education on protein and NSC levels. My horses are admittedly on the plumper side right now. I picked up 2 bags of the TC 30 today. I was told my horses only need about 1lb PER DAY of this stuff to get all their daily vitamins and minerals. She said to keep on with the alfalfa cubes as well for extra calories, adjust the cubes as needed. Has anyone ever tried this ration balancer before? I gave each horse a handful when I got home and unloaded feed, because that's just what's expected of me when I drive my pickup back to the barn to unload feed lol! Only my old man wasnt too e cried about it at first! It was like a kid trying kale for the first time... my other 2 boys gobbled it right up and were looking for more. I'm really hoping this works out for me. I love the logic behind it and my boys are doing great on the hayrite. Slick and shiny and have noticed mane and tail growth as well. I also feed a scoop of platinum so I'm wondering if I can do away from that since the TC has everything covered. I hate to stop platinum because they sent me a 25lb pail recently and I want to use it up! Plus I love the company and the supplement.

Mine are FAT on HALF pound of renew gold a day. LOL  I also use one scoop platinum ( Regular formula) and FORCO. Thats it other than unlimited orchard alfalfa hay.

I shouldn't complain but our pastures have taken off and those hogs would love nothing more than to be turned out all day and night lol! I literally have to go catch them now to bring them in and theyll run from me. Makes me so mad! I have to limit their turnout time now. I know I should feel happy I have extremely easy keepers and bountiful pasture but they take it to the extreme lol!

I feed TC 30 and plan to stay on it! Im really happy with how my horses look. My only suggestion would be to test your forage and adjust accordingly. Our hay differs greatly in selenium, so each squeeze I get it tested and have to adjust the TC.

Yes mine are making major ugly faces at each other right now in their stalls because I haven't turned them out yet. My next door neighbors have same type of pasture coming in, we use the same farrier, he told me one of her horses is beginning early signs of laminitis and can barely walk .. they have her stalled up now. This grass comes up with a vengeance.. unfortunately they get a lot of clover on their side .. guess that's what got the mare

I switched to a ration balancer about a year ago for my mare.  She has a good pasture -- and hay to nibble when she comes inside.  She looks fabulous. She gets 1 pound a day (1/2 morning; 1/2 evening).    I plan to switch my gelding to the ration balancer this summer.  I have always believed in a forage-based diet and the ration balancer allows me to do that and assure my horses are getting all the required nutrients.  My mare's coat is sparkly shiney and her hooves have improved.  I'm sold on it.   The switch has certainly cut my feed bill....

That's what I'm hoping for, to ease up my feed bill! She suggested giving my old fat man just a half pound a day .. hes really really overweight and super duper easy keeper and just pasture ornament. So I'll be feeding only 2 1/2lbs of it per day.

I have my mare on TC30 (the horse in my pic) because she’s such an easy keeper, and I feed good hay. My other horses are on Ultium Gastric Care. They all get flax.

I’ve been happy with the TC30, but I did notice yesterday that my other 3 are already dappled this spring, and that mare is not. But all of them are at a good weight.

That's the thing, my horses look really good but are too fat! My pally is darkening up and full of dapples .. I'm really hoping they stay looking good on the TC they are going from a 10% fat feed to a 3% fat ration balancer... I always thought fat made them sparkle lol! I'm going to take pics of them today and do a comparison in a few months . I always liked the ultium too for them. I guess I can always add in some Renew Gold for extra fat if I think its needed.

We have fed 1 # per horse TC Balancer 30 since Nov 2018.  That plus good grass/alfalfa hay (nothing else) and they all look great. Slick with shine (in Montana) and good physical condition with calm attitude.  The yearlings are looking very mature and sleek.

Two of my mares are on TC30 & have been since diagnosis of PSSM2 variants.  It was a game changer on both.  It has the higher protein & the tri aminos they need for the disease.  I had the one on RG prior to her being symptomatic (or being diagnosed) and she started tying up on me.  (prior to that, she was on rolled barley for years).  It was the ONLY thing that changed in her life, so took her off it immediately, switched her to the TC30 the other one was getting.  They both do great on it.

I'm using it on my older geldings that needed a little more to their Senior Care feed, I was told that you can use it as a supplement so thats what I'm doing and liking it, And it a 50# bag and the cost is not bad at all.

The lady I spoke to said it's really considered a supplement. Bluebonnet makes one as well called Boost em?? I think that's what she said but since my bluebonnet feedstore carries the TC already I went with it so she wouldn't have to order in for me. My horses are happily eating the TC so I'm good with it.

Yep, boost em is another good one, thats what I love about Triple crown and Bluebonnet they have their own vits/supplements, especially BlueBonnet, the feed store I buy my feed from carrys everything I need or want, BlueBonnet even makes their own Parrot mix and other bird feeds, my feed store really has me spoiled, the owner is great, but shhhh dont tell her I said that

I am using Nutrena Empower.  Several of my friends have switched their horses to it after seeing how well it's worked for my mare.  Most of us over-feed --  i.e., those of us who are not trainers and are not able to ride every day.  A friend of mine was struggling with feed and supplement costs for her two horses -- horses she only rides a couple of times on the weekend.  She switched to the Empower which slashed her feed bill -- and her horses look better, too.  She also cut supplements from her bill.  Simple, IMO, is always better.

Yep, me too Roxie!  I have my 30 year old on the Triple Crown Senior but also give her some of the TC30 since she likes it & adds a bit of "bloom" to the old girl.

Did anyone have any trouble getting their horses to eat the TC at first? I cant believe how picky these prima donna geldings have gotten! I was just giving them a little bit at a time to ease them into it. I already dumped their old grain because they weren't eating it anyway. Last 2 mornings theyve gotten the recommended amount of 1lb and they just pushed it around, took a few bites and decided nope! I know it's not full of junk or sweet good tasting stuff.. but it doesnt smell terrible. I have some renew Gold I'm thinking about mixing it with some of that to see if those titty babies will eat it more willingly then. They have been eating their alfalfa cubes all up in the evenings with their platinum just fine. When on earth did they become so darn picky!!!??

Nope no problem, but I do use it as a supplement on my 2 geldings I add it to the feed that they are eating. And my old man {Donkey} loves it..So he gets a tiny handfull of it..

I don't feed the TC RB but I do feed BB Omega, its everything they need as far as vit and minerals and pre/pro biotics... It was a game changer for me, you only feed 1 1/2 lbs am and pm to the horses working, the others get about a lb am and pm.  I was big on oats, corn, and that heck, I loved sweet feed... but once I pulled back on NSC I could see a difference, not only in their look but even my old guy who is 20 gets around so much better!  and they love it... hopefully yours start to love it!

So my horses just do not like TC30 ... they are leaving it in their feed buckets ... again.  So frustrating! I never thought I had picky horses . . I'm only feeding 1/2lb in the am and 1/2lb in the pm..  we took a walk thru my closest feed store warehouse yesterday and I saw that they carry Progressive grass balancer RB I ended up purchasing a bag, come to find out its almost $6 cheaper than TC too! I gave a handful to my boys last night and they gobbled it right up! It smells completely different from the TC. I hope this one will work out better for them. This feed store is so much closer for me.. just found out they became a blue bonnet dealer as well! Now I'm just waiting to see if they'll become a hay rite dealer so I can get my alfalfa cubes there too. He told me theyll either get hayrite or omnis cubes, theyve had a lot of people asking for them.

I use the TC 30 as a supplement on a couple, I dont use it alone, I add a cup full to their feed and they do eat it all, I do have a very picky eater and he takes all day to eat his feed, he has always been this way and with anything I feed him so I am always trying to find that feed that he'll love but he's been more of a hay guy, he'll eat on his hay better then feed, the TC I'll add to his feed, now the others no problem but like I was saying I feed it as a supplement, I smell all feed and supplements too and the TC 30 dont really have a great smell, lol..I may go back to the Calf Manna for him and see if the old man will eat it better.. But heck he dont like anything, he does have the run of the place out here so hes eating grass, hay.. But he does eat and like the cheap feed I feed the goats out here, he'll go find the goat feed and munch on it and then go back to the special feed I have for him and pick at it, uggggg..The feed I feed the goats is a all stock feed so it dont have anything specila added to it..

Try the Bluebonnet Boost Em, it is their version but better of the calf manna. I had one customers mare on the TC 30. She was suppost to be an easy keeper. To me she fell off with it. I liked her better on the TC lite. I personally feed all mine Bluebonnet. Either Senior Therapy, Equilene Complete or Energized for some of our retired pasture horses that are easy keepers.

When Andy gos in to get my goat feed I'll get him to pick up a bag of boost'em, I forgot all about this one, lol, this is my old man thats retired (26), well they all are now since I dont go anywhere anymore, hes the one I got on Elite Senior Care, but got to picking so Dr. Huffman told me to try the TC Senior on him and he really wont eat that feed, so went back to his senior care adding the tc 30, but I will try the boost'em, everybody else eats like theres no tommorow, my IR gelding is still on his  TC Lite and looks great, but just this one thats being a butthead about anything and everything.. Thanks for suggesting the boost'em..

Is Calf Manna considered a ration balancer? I know our TSC has it all the time.. not sure how fresh they keep it but it's there. I fed this morning and I just gave them 1/2lb of the Progressive .. I didnt add anything else .. i usually throw a scoop of renew gold in with it and a oz of fasttrack in the mornings but I wanted to see if they'd actually just eat the progressive.. my pickiest old man sniffed it first, I swear he thinks I'm trying to poison him lol! Then he ate it all up. They all did. Fingers crossed theyll keep it up. It seems like a really nice RB. They make 1 for grass and 1 for alfalfa based diets. Since I feed mostly grass hay and just a little of the alfalfa cubes, they suggested grass balancer. I'm kind of getting over my supplements obsession and wanting/needing to get back to simplicity! I still have that 25lb bucket of platinum I've got to get thru but after I'm done with that, I think I'm going to just try and feed the RB and alfalfa cubes and see how they do. No special supps unless they absolutely need it, which they probably wont, I like to keep a bucket of forco or fastrack around in case of diarrhea or something like that but my feed room is looking like a science lab... too much "fluff" laying around. If theyll actually eat the recommended amount of the progressive they should get all their needs met. Right now these horses are FAT as in FAT, not as in PHAT! lol! Our pasture keeps on growing we just shredded again I have to limit their time out there, I hate stalling them on such pretty days but I'm honestly concerned how much they gained just from eating off the pasture

So far so good on the Progressive RB they are actually happy to eat it! I have a question hopefully someone can answer. Since my guys are really overweight and have been switched from a high fat feed to this RB (1lb a day) and now I'm limiting their turnout on the pasture to only 2-3 hours a day, plus theyve started getting worked lightly ... if I dont ride, I lunge for 15-20 minutes to start them back. I am wondering if I should keep my grass hay in front of them all day while stalled or limit it throughout the day. I feed hay out of a slow feed net. I dont like the idea of them being without forage while stalled up. They pick at it for a few hours during their stalled time but every morning when I go to feed they have cleaned it all up completely. My nets will hold 3-5 large flakes. Just a little peek at the chubby-ness I'm dealing with lol!
