so I was searching through some older posts on here about boots and people were giving their opinions of why they liked/ disliked a boot. Some people were saying X boot was bulky or heavy so I decided to check some things out. I took a cheap kitchen scale and weighed the following boots:

Relentless- 4oz

Prof Choice 2- 5-6oz

Prof Choice 3- 5-6 oz

Classic Equine- 6-7 oz

Iconoclast- 7 oz

In addition to this I looked at pastern coverage between sport boot and bell boot. IMO Iconoclast covered the most, followed by, Prof Choice 2, Classic Equine, and Prof Choice 3 & Relentless were about equal...

So, would you let potentially 3 oz in a boot deter you from buying it bc they are “too bulky”?

Also, has anyone had the problem with boots being “ran up” the hind leg after a run? Meaning the boot is out of position up the leg and the ankle is not covered/supported. I’ve had this happen a few times through the years especially with some of the lesser coverage boots.

I love my classic equine legacy boots.. they seem to be the best at keeping sand out, for me. I've thought about getting iconoclasts but just haven't pulled the trigger yet! 

Classic equines are my favorite too for fit and durability.....

I like CE better than PC - I find they fit better. I also like the Dynamic Edge boots. I’ve never tried the iconoclast though 

The problem I’ve had with the newer CE is there is a gap when you pull the sling around underneath the ankle....I thought it was just me but a friend of mine said the same thing the other day, my old ones don’t do this, just newer ones...

Personally I don't like CE boots, but I LOVE their bells. I run in either professionals choice or iconoclast, mainly iconoclast. I feel they have better support and I have never got dirt inside of them. 

I prefer iconoclast. For as much as horses are able to clip themselves on the leg while running I want that double protection around their ankle. 

I need to buy a new pair and I'm back and forth between CE and Iconoclast. I'm not a fan on PC. Every time I'd take them offf after a run, sand and dirt everywhere. It's not SO bad with the CE boots. But my mare does have a tendency to clip herself, which is why I was leaning toward the Iconoclast boots.

I just feel like the PC has gone down in quality. All I use to have on everyone was PC the last pair I had ordered brand new felt so thin and flimsy .. I was really disappointed. The CE still feel better made and thicker with really sticky velcro... it takes a minute to get them fitted just right but once on nothing is getting thru them. I finally measured my horses with their sizing guide and got correct sizes .. made a huge difference! 

I'm the oddball here.

I sold all my CE cuz they didnt fit my mare correct. But I love the PC elites on her. So I now have a bunch of pairs of those. Ive tried several other brands but keep going back to the Elites so I guess I will stick with those for awhile. 

I tried CE but they just did not fit my horse right. I could never get the darts to line up right.

But I do love the CE dyno turn bell boots.

My fav is Prof Choice SMB 3 (which are harder to fine).

Tried Weaver Prodigy. Didn't fit as well as the PC (not as formed to the leg) and they let lots of dirt in.

Have not tried Relentless.

Have not tried Iconoclast because I am honestly not a fan of the double sling. Research has been done that shows boots (or polos) don't actually truly give support, so I guess I just don't see the purpose of having the bulk of two slings. IMO

One that hasn't been mentioned yet, unless I missed it, are Pegasus boots. Anyone use them? I used to but felt like they fell apart too easily. But that was years ago...so maybe the quality has improved? 

I agree with you. Legacy boots are too bulky and they don't fit close enough to keep dirt out but PC Elites work well. I still prefer polo wraps to keep dirt out, but I try to keep a set of Elites around in case I need to hurry between horses and need to save a couple minutes.

My favorite of the Classic Equine boots is their Crossfit line. I think they are a lot lighter and fit closer to the leg. We have a full set of them but they're mediums so we mainly use them on client horses.....my two wear larges. :(

I bought a pair of Iconoclasts once and sold them the next day.  They were flimsy, WAY small, and just not worth the money.

I use boots on the front and polos on the back. For the longest time, I only used polos but switched about a year ago. Not sure why, maybe I got tired of wrapping 12 legs at a race. Who knows.... 

I like how pc elites and smb3 fit the leg but not how much space is left between boot and bell boot, leaving the pastern exposed so much. Plus these are the ones that run up the back legs of my horses the most...not protecting anything if they aren’t in place.....don’t get me wrong once ir twice I’ve had a classic or smb2 do it too but not as much as these 2 or relentless

My go to pair is my Iconoclast, after that is my CE. I like them both as good as the other I just like the way the Iconoclast my strange sized horse. she needs a smedium in most things...smalls are too small and mediums can be too big.

We have found nothing that compares to Iconoclast. The protection is high and there is never any sand or dirt underneath of them when I take them off. The velcro is intense (might take you 20 minutes to get a brand new boot undone). I do wear through the back boots fairly quickly but I ride/train breakaway horses in a sand arena so it just comes with the territory. 

I use polos on the back if they wear anything on the back.

I have both PC and Iconoclast for the front and it just depends on the horse.  My finished gelding is pretty fine boned and the iconoclast just seem really bulky on him.  I don’t have that issue on a bigger horse.  

I also have the Flow boots and wraps.  They are the only ones that i have that never seem to have dirt in them.  Both the PC and the Iconoclast will have dirt in them to some degree.  I try to put them on later and always take them off as soon as I get done running.

I haven't really used anything but Iconoclast for the last 10 years. IMO they provide more coverage and protection. I become a fan when I went to IBRA finals in 2010. I had always used PC prior. A few days in started to see some swelling in my geldings on ankle. I bought my first pair of Iconocalasts there. Between those boots and icing the leg I believe it prevented it from developing into something worse.

I did try Pegasus and absolutely hated them. Did try CE and thought they were ok just not as good as Iconoclast.
