I have a new horse that is Doc o Lena, Jae Bar Masie, Dual Pep, Doc Quioxte bred mare that was used for cutting and then did some sorting and penning. She is very sensitive in the mouth smd naturally carries her head very low...almost too low! I'm starting to pattern her but was curious what everyone's go to bits are for ex cow horses and patterning. She bends well in a snaffle which is what I've been using but she feels really heavy in my hands and kind of hangs on the bit.

Well, I'm not sure how you bend a horse in a smartphone.....

My favorite bit for a low headed horse is the Original No Hit bit.  The gag action helps pick  the head and neck up.  A few horses have not like all that gag, but most have been fine with it.  My next choice is a Cherry Cervi chain mouthpiece.

Good luck!

I'm not sure what would be exactly best for patterning, but I use a Pauley Puller headstall from cowhorsesupply. I love it; wish they sold the noseband/bit separtely!!

100 different answers and none right or wrong.

I ride my cow bred/cutter bred in a Jim Edwards V correctional on a 4.5” sliding gag cheek.  I also like it on my more race bred gelding.  It suits my hands and I like the feel.

I’ve ridden the first gelding in a lot of different mouth pieces and I’ve found that chains and 3 pieces make him very heavy in my hands.  Something ported for tongue relief keeps him light.  As for his head - I don’t worry about it, I drive his hip up under him, lift his back, and let him put his head where it’s comfortable for him.
