Has anyone fed the Standlee Timothy pellets from tractor supply? I feed premium, reasonably priced alfalfa by the bale but our grass hay prices out here in CA are nearing 30.00 a BALE for timothy or orchard. Crazy. I had the idea to feed free choice alfalfa and just provide some of the Timothy pellets to keep the grass forage in them. I was surprised at how SOFT and flaky the pellets are.. I can't imagine you would have to soak these!!! I soaked some and it was total mash in literally 2 minutes.. LOL If you feed these do you soak????? THe alfalfa pellets are hard but these timothy are soft as cotton candy and my horses LOVE them! I have used them before but only in my horses water buckets while hauling to encourage more water consumption ( Trick my vet gave me) sure enough you put some pellets in a bucket of water they sink and my horses will drink the whole bucket to get to them. LOLOL  So should I soak them to feed them? THANKS!

I feed the Standlee alfalfa pellets and I soak them. It takes about 15 minutes to absorb all of the water and be nice and fluffy.

Yep I agree on the alfalfa. They are always harder. But wondering on these grass ones... If I let these pellets soak for 15 minutes they would be green water. LOL

I have used the Timothy pellets and I did not soak them.  Did not have a problem with choke but be sure your horse's teeth are in good shape.  I also feed the Alfalfa/Timothy pellets and cubes.

Thanks, thats kind of what I was thinking. Yep, horses teeth are up to date and I plan to mix them in with my regular renew gold/ few whole oats, so chewing will be better. I will probably start with just a pound or so and watch them eat it first few times.

to stretch my hay I like to use Stable Mix. you don't have to soak it. They are based here in CA :) I have used the timothy pellets and I just add some water on top and swish them around I don't "soak" them. But like you say they do break down super fast!

We feed the alfalfa/Timothy pellets without soaking them, without issues. But our horses have great teeth and no issues.

I think I have seen stable mix in Tractor supply. Seems like there is corn in it?

I don’t see corn in it. I use the regular stable mix and the lite which I prefer because it doesn’t contain soy (soybean meal)

they are super helpful with any questions.  I messaged them on Facebook ????

I get mine from a local feed store. Maybe look up their website or fb page and find a local dealer list?

I'd try teff grass first...... your horses are easy keepers, free choice alfalfa wouldn't be the best idea IMO.

I've fed Standlee timothy and alfalfa pellets dry and never had an issue. Of course my horse's teeth are in great shape and he's not a fast eater.
