About 9 days ago one of my horses came up lame in a hind leg. Fine night before , walking on toe and sore next day. Text book abscess. Soaked , packed, and wrapped for 4 days and she slowly got better but Never saw an abcess break. Had her to the vet Friday for other stuff and had her look at it. She guesses a bruise and it might take another week. Only thing is, she has ZERO swelling in that leg but i think her fetlock is warmer than the other one. Lol. She seems to be going fine on it. Has anyone experienced heat with no swelling while a bruise is healing ? Thanks !

Yes.  I would bet it’s going to abcess.  I had one that had a abcess took for ever for it to drain.  The vet dug to China trying to get it to drain.  It finally came out through the coronary band.

I'd bet abscess is still brewing.

The start of an abcess I would guess and that it is a super deep one! I've always been told for equine and humans to feel for heat don't look for swelling for injury that way you watch it sooner.

Thanks all! She went from super sore to sound in about 4-5 days so thats good. I went ahead and packed with magic cushion last night and that for sure drew most of the heat out of the fetlock. I think I will keep going that route. She is due to be shod on June 7 so my farrier can check it all over then to.

Just an Update: I packed with Magic cushion and shavings ( Pretty cool and you don't have to wrap). Heat in fetlock and foot was greately reduced!!! So looks like the bruise is starting to heal up and be absorbed. All good!
