Whats causing the laminits? I have to be careful with what my gelding that is IR eats, hes got to be on a low sugar low starch feed, if he gets to much sugar in his diet it kicks off the laminits.

Honestly I have no idea. I’m about to do blood work. She’s not fat and is only 5. I picked her up from her old owner and took her straight to the vet to be bred. Ask them not to feed her grain. They didn’t. She foundered there. Brought her home, stalled her. She did fine on Triple crown senior. Got her soundish, put shoes and pads on her and turned her out. Ran out of TC senior over the weekend. Fed it to her Monday. Foundered again. (It’s los starch/sugar). Changed to lower protein feed (still low starch/sugar). Pulled shoes, applied magic cushion and soft rides....

With my gelding I feed him Triple Crown Lite, no pasture cause green grass is loaded with sugar and that will set his laminits off in a heartbeat if hes out on it all day, he gets pasture maybe once a week for a few hours after hes full on hay, but pasture with green grass is a big no no for him..I also have him on a supplement/med that his vet put him on I cant remember the name of it right off hand, I will look it up for you when I get back in the house. And some hay you really have to be careful feeding too because of the sugar in it if its really fresh hay.

If you turned her out on green grass, that’s probably what caused the flair up. Green grass is very high in sugar. Soaking your hay reduces starch.

TC Sr is what I feed my EMS horses. It’s around 11% NSC where the Lite is around 9% NSC

I would run a bag of DMSO to

her IV . It will help with the laminitis.

if you have one that has a history of Laminitis why would you feed them anything other than alfalfa?

Is she currently bred?  If so are you sure it's not foal founder?  We had a mare that got this her last two pregnancies, not knowing the first was from being in foal, thought she got into a weed.  Second time we were sure.  She came out of it about 1/3 way through pragnancies.

Her first pregnancy at 13 was fine, text book.

I believe she foundered prior to being checked in foal. If not she was just days bred. How early did your mare founder?

We have a laminitic pony.  Alfalfa is what we were advised as well and went on for MONTHS until I figured out it was protien causing her flare ups.  The body will turn too much protein into sugar but this pony is on EVERTHING the vet advised NOT to feed and she's sound and has been since August when I figured out it was protein.  Had her on alfalfa, alfalfa pellets for supplements and flax seed (anti-inflammitory properties) but we're looking at 40%+ in protein, then the Biotin I had her on was 12%.  Cold turkied (grass hay only) her and in 2 weeks was as sound as I'd seen her in 10 months.

She is currently on dry lot, grass hay, whole oats, Horse Guard, magnesium and temp on Thyro L to get the rest of her cresty neck to go away.  I highly suggestest the magnesium to help the body process sugars.  The difference in the ponies body alone on magnesium is amazing.

It was within the first week or two.  And one was LC and the other AI, so not drug induced, all hormone.

I thought about explaining Gluconeogenesis but then thought, Nah

Good luck
