Location: Displaced Iowegian | Thanks, Roxie ..... I am now being able to see out of the one good eye since they patched the other in a way that I couldn't wear my glasses. They operated last Wed. to remove pterygium (growths in the eye) and .... let me tell you .... it IS painful. I have over 15 stitches in my left eye that feel like 15 little razor blades....I had a post op appt. Thursday and Friday. They re-packed it and gave me a script for pain meds (thankfully!!!). The Dr. said that I must have a high tolerance for pain since I JUST said it HURT LIKE H*LL .... he said most come in actually crying about the pain .... LOL..... the worst part was John's driving ...... I finally took the car back Friday and drove with ONE eye ....I have another appt. next week and then 3 more surgeries over the summer.....yippe!!!! If that wasn't bad enough, I have managed to hurt my back! I will be going to the chiro tomorrow ...... It is H*LL to get old .... LOL |

Bless your heart---for your eye situation AND the male driving part! Both of my parents have had eye procedures/surgeries and it was not pleasant for them at all. I'm so sorry you have even more to go thru. Hopefully the chiropractor can at least get your back better |

Thanks for asking ...... UPDATE - 6/27: It has been one week since the surgery. I had a Post Op appt. this afternoon. The eye is still very red and hurts along the edges. I have been putting antibiotic ointment in it four times a day, which then blurs my vision for quite awhile. Dr. says that it is healing well but that I have four stitches that are still in there causing the discomfort. If they don't dissolve by next Tuesday morn, they will remove them .... I am certainly not looking forward to this same surgery in the other eye on July 10th (then 2 cataract surgeries) ..... I fear that this is not going to be a "great" summer ..... I may go into hiding...LOL |

It IS getting better. It is still pretty red but the "scratchy" feeling is getting better. I am still putting anitibiotic ointment in it four times a day.... Hopefully, Tuesday (Dr. appt) he finds that the stitches have dissolved.....If not, I don't look forward to having him removing. I did get some exciting news yesterday. My son (who lives in Cheyenne and is retired millitary) was elected the new National President of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Assn. He grew up in the rodeo arena with "horsepower" that you had to feed and take care of and moved into another type of "horsepower" ..... LOL .... Matt and his "buddy" Skeeter .....

Hope the stitches are dissolved too, that makes me cringe to think the Doctor has to removed them himselve. |

Thanks for checking .... yes, the stitches have dissolved or, at least, I don't feel them. I still have to put thick antibiotic ointment in four times a day so my vision is blurry in that eye ..... I can use that as a reason for lousy typing .... LOL Second surgery (rt. eye) is scheduled for tomorrow (Wed.) at 10:30 ...... Never fear the surgery ....just John's driving .... LOL |

The second surgery yesterday went "about" as well as could be expected. This eye only has 7-8 stitches. However, it took two lab techs SEVEN stabs to hit a vein (3 tries in rt. hand ......; 2 tries in rt arm ..... 1 try in left hand ......FINALLY 1 try in the left arm). Unfotunately, I now feel like I am blind in one eye and can't see out of the other...... LOL This should be the "selfie" of me "discussing" John's driving .... LOL .... I took back the wheel today!

My next appointment is August 2nd for post-op on the right eye and pre-op (cataract) for the left eye. The left eye cataract surgery is scheduled for August 5th. They haven't scheduled the right eye cataract surgery. Fortunately, I have a pretty high pain tolerance. Bright lights have been the most bothersome. Of course, that includes the computor .... hence no posts from me .... that should make some happy......LOL |

LOL .... It has been so darn hot here that (lucky for them) no one has complained that I have not been in the kitchen sweating over a hot stove ..... I do have a warning for the youngsters here ..... the condition (pterygium) is primarily caused by sun damage.... Little did I know (YEARS ago) that I should have worn better sunglasses !!!!!!!!!!! |

My eyes are so sun sensitive I can barely go out even in cloudy weather without sunglasses. I sometimes get odd looks but I can't help it. I wore cheapos when I was really young, but went to the good ones in high school. And thank goodness Chan wears his pretty much all the time too, on the tractor or in the field. . . . I have to wait another two weeks before they will be able to test my eyes for the need of new glasses. Right now, I am in between ...... I can see great without my glasses for distance but can't see to read really small print. Unfortunately, my present glasses are too strong to be able to see up close WITH them.....Due to other issues (Astigmatism, etc), I will still need glasses but should be able to see MUCH better .....fingers crossed! |

Thanks for checking!!!! Let's just say that it has not been a "fun" summer and it is not over yet. I have to wait another two weeks before they will be able to test my eyes for the need of new glasses. Right now, I am in between ...... I can see great without my glasses for distance but can't see to read really small print. Unfortunately, my present glasses are too strong to be able to see up close WITH them.....Due to other issues (Astigmatism, etc), I will still need glasses but should be able to see MUCH better .....fingers crossed!
glad that you checked in, been thinking about you |

Location: Displaced Iowegian | Unfortunately, recovery hasn't been as smooth as I would have liked. My left eye had been giving me problems as it was scratchy, red and painful at times, It does seem that it has cleared up. I picked up my new glasses today which makes things seem brighter and I can actually read the fine print....LOL |
