i had an issue with one of my horses today. Not an emergency but wanted to see if my horse could be seen by my regular vet. I put in a call to her first thing this morning and left a message. By 1pm I had not heard a word back. She may have just been super busy. I called another vet I have used in the past and got my horse right in. We evaluated my horses issue and off I went. If my regular vet calls back should I tell her I took my horse some place else??! Or just let it go and say I don’t need an appointment anymore ? My regular vet has been my primary vet for 20 plus years. Thanks !

I would tell your regular vet that you ended up having your horse seen by someone else, then they are aware that the issue didn’t just “go away” and if there is any follow up needed, they can look at the first vet’s notes and go from there. I would explain the situation and most likely they will understand. My husband is an equine vet and where we live, the cell service is terrible, so he has had clients take their horses to a different vet if they can’t get ahold of him, and then he has provided follow up care, and never once has he gotten upset at a client for seeking out immediate care for their horse. He knows I would do the same if I couldn’t reach him.

I would just let it go. My vet is super busy and I understand that. Sometimes he doesn’t call me back when I have had emergencies. Yeah, I get ****ed off, but I don’t take it out on him. He is so busy that I doubt he would miss my business. Also you would have to get past his receptionist. She’s pretty tough, but she and I get along great because I don’t call complaining about stuff.

Oh yea I was not mad in the least that she couldn’t get back to me. I just wasn’t sure if I should keep her up to date on my horse. No worries. I just sent her a quick text last evening that I had gone and what we found with my horse. It’s all good thanks !
