I'm seriously considering asking my dr (I'm seeing her Monday) for maybe a prescription to help me get more quality sleep. I'm lacking it lately.  I'm exhausted but just cant seem to sleep at night. I end up tossing n turning all night long. I've tried several OTC things for it and never have any luck long term. Anyone here have any luck with some prescription sleep aids.?

Ask your doctor to order a sleep study.

Stop all caffeine drinks by 1 p.m. each day.  (No tea, soda, chocolate, etc.)

I was having terrible sleep / exhaustion issues in my late 40s.  Sleep study determined I had mild apnea so was prescribed a CPAP machine -- it took me a few weeks to settle in using it, but OMG -- I began sleeping through the night and wake up super-charged.  I am now 63 and use that thing every night faithfully -- it travels with me everywhere.  It's to the point that when I slip on the mask and turn it on my mind says:  "Time to sleep!"  If you need a CPAP it is WELL WORTH the effort to learn to sleep with it --

I thought those were for people who snore... like my husband.  He snores so bad I sleep in our guest room most of the time! I've been begging him to see a sleep specialist forever. It's awful! I do not snore. I have a really bad back so sometimes when I have a flair up I take a prescribed muscle relaxer and it makes me sleep soundly all night but I do not want to get addicted to those! No way. They just relax my whole body and take my pain away and its lights out! I recently quit drinking all alcohol,  it's been 54 days since I've had a drink(but who's counting haha) and I'm kinda wondering if that's messing with me too.. I use to love my beer but decided to quit drinking for a while to focus on my fitness and health. I dont drink a lot of caffeine,  I have maybe 1 or 2 cups of coffee in the morning and that's it. All I drink during the day is water or decaf iced tea. (I make it myself at home) a new store just opened up in my little town called Help Me Hemp and a few people told me the lady is really knowledgeable and they sell all kinds of CBD stuff in there, I may go pay her visit today and see what she has. I love the idea of natural stuff.

Most people who snore need a CPAP; however, not everyone with sleep apnea snores -- one of my coworkers was a slim, fit young man and had sleep apnea. He did not snore!  He had a worse case than I did.   Alcohol before bedtime will definitely interrupt your sleep.   Another co-worker's father died due to untreated sleep apnea --- he refused to use the CPAP or do anything the doctor requested he do -- sleep apnea puts a major strain on your heart and organs since they are deprived of oxygen -- this man died sitting in his recliner.

I had this thought too.

I think a sleep study may be worth it as sleep apnea is serious stuff.

However my husband and I have been taking CBD oil.  He’s noticing some physical pain reduction and I noticed better sleep and a reduction in what I guess could be called anxiety - I don’t consider it anxiety, but I’m a little less “high strung” so to speak.

We’ve run out so we are going to stay off it for 3-4 weeks and see what happens.  Moreso with my husband’s pain.  It’s not cheap so we want to know it works.

My horse is on her Morphine Bomb and he is doing really well on it.  Injections no longer works but this stuff does!  I have learned to give directly 2x a day and for him it is 30.00 a month!  Way cheaper than supplements and injections every 4-6 mths!. and less chance of joint infection too! She is very reasonable!!!

I'm surprised nobody has offered the "little yellow pill" yet.

Most of the reason people don't sleep well is because of pain.  Take 2 or 3 Asprins at night and I bet you will notice quit a difference.   Its the cheapest thing you can try.

Insomnia sufferer here. I have no trouble falling alseep but can't stay asleep. That's an important distinction when talking to your Dr. or evaluating RX sleep options.

My dr gave me a few suggestions on some natural remedies to try out. Shes never been a pill pusher (rx) she always likes to try to take a more natural approach to stuff like sleep deprivation or even depression. She will prescribe it if its absolutely necessary but she always gives me options first. That's why shes been my dr for the last 13 years!
