I posted these on FB as well, but has anyone ever seen veins on a horse's leg like these? If so what did you use as protection boots/polos/nothing?

Those kinda look like scar tissue to me. But I sure would use some kind of sports boots on this horse.

Guess I should give a little more background.  I have owned this horse since birth.  No leg injuries, no boots/wraps of any sort have ever been put on him. He had them as a baby as well.

They do look varicose veins.  If that’s what they are I’d definitely put boots on him.  Varicose veins have higher pressure in them than normal healthy veins.  If there’s an injury or a cut over them they can hemorrhage pretty briskly.  I’ve seen someone nearly bleed to death from a cut varicose vein.

I thought varicose veins too, but didn't know if horses got them. . .
