Hi everyone, so I have attached a video of a barrel run. It would great if you could give me your thoughts and opinions on what I can do to improve my run.

The mare is 10yrs, sensitive, bendy, foreword moving, and naturally on her forehand. She’s Martha x No Bakes Now. Recently got her stifles injected, had her on omeprazole, and has been adjusted so those aspects have been looked at.

I ride her in a chain gag and recently put a tie down on her. Not sure if that is the correct gear..still experimenting. I try focus on collection, suppleness, and really engaging her hind end when practising but feel like it falls apart in our run or i just dont ride her as well as i could?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You keep referring to her being on her forehand and not collecting and not engaging her rear but I see an a$$ dragging, on her butt almost too much horse who has a stiffer rollback style.

Shes super neat.  I would run her to the right and try a draw gag if she were mine... but yea one video doesnt tell the whole story.

I would also work on a lot of forward motion thru the turn. It wont change her style but it may help her from getting bogged down.

Thanks for the suggestions! Why do you suggest going to the right barrel first?

Looks like a very nice mare that wants to work. I don’t see her being front endy.

I would do some slow work working on some big circles around the barrels, keeping her rouns. Don’t let her step in, make your circles symmetrical and correct her if she tries to step in , she needs to keep driving with her hind end at the back side of the barrel instead of wadding up

when you’re making your run make sure you look past your barrel, not at it. Drive passed the barrel before you let her start the turn.

Well she just seemed to get around it with less hassles. She did flatten out behind #1 but Im gonna attribute that to her dragging her butt on the entry and losing some forward momentum. Like I said before 1 video doesnt tell the whole story, its just what jumped out at me.
