So I’m confused!  Can someone please explain the new format for Cheyenne for me?  Is it somewhat like Houston or Calgary?  Where they have pools and you advance on to next round?  I know there was some controversy about it but didn’t know exactly how things work.  Thanks!

I can only tell you about the team roping.  Everybody gets 2 steers.  The top 40 makes the tournament style, sort of like Houston and San Antonio.  Unlike Houston and SA, all can enter, so it is kind of a pre-qualifier to make the tournament rounds.  The complaints that I read were because there are so many rodeos to go to at this time of the year, the cowboys could not enter Cheyenne and the other rodeos.  Logistically, it was just not possible especially for the calf ropers and steer wrestlers that have to drag horses.  The top 50 calf ropers and steer wrestlers (at least most of them) did not enter.  The committee said the crowd wanted to see a winner at their performance.  In my opinion, most of the crowd can't tell the difference between Joe Smoe and Trevor Brazille.  They could have just let the fastest time from each perf make a victory lap and the crowd would probably be happy.

Change is hard.

They had two slacks. First one had roughly 170. Second one had 48. Out of all those runs, they took something like 74 back into the perfs. The perfs will be tournament style with the winners advancing into the finals. They did the draw however they wanted to and now most of the girls are scrambling to make things work with what they’ve already entered. It’s a total cluster.

I was reading that post on fb about trades. I'm not sure how anyone is keeping it straight.

I'm guessing there will be quite a few turn outs? I hope they all get traded the way they need to. I was amazed at the number of entries after everyone was mad about the changes.

It seems like Cheyenne is taking a page out of Houston and Calgary’s books??? Meaning if you draw out, you can’t come back. Seems like I read that somewhere?????

I understand that Cheyenne wants to go the path of Houston, San Antonio and now Ft. Worth and go with the tournament style format.  They got extra money this year from the Cowboy Chanel and thought they could add some of that into payout.  What they failed to think thru is the number of rodeos during the winter don't compare to the number of July rodeos.  The cowboys who do this for a living need to make as many rodeos as possible. The cowboys want to come to Cheyenne, but the committee is making them choose Cheyenne and miss out on a lot of other rodeos and opportunities to win there.

^^^^ TRUE ........ most "Rodeo Committees" have very few actual rodeo cowboys (or anyone connected to rodeo in their family) on their committee. Several years ago when my son was one the a Chairmen of the Cheyenne Rodeo, he was the ONLY one of that Committee that had actually conmpeted or been involved in rodeo ..... most are businessmen, lawyers, etc .....
