Well I’m planning ahead for my annual Vegas trip in sept. For the last 3 years my horses refuse to drink out of their buckets from the faucets in the barn area. They both drink super well on the road EVERYWHERE but here. We are talking they travel to 5-6 states a year and no issues. Just Vegas! They will however drink out of the big troughs in Vegas where the stock pens are. So I end up walking them over there ever couple hours to drink. Every year I try something different. 2 years ago used a horse hydrator filter. No go. Last year I hauled my own big aluminum water trough , same as in the stock pens. No go. This year I figured i would try Gatorade. Lol testing it before I go is not really an option , they drink out big huge troughs at home and I’m not pouring gallons of Gatorade in them. Lolol. I’m not going to haul 100 gallon tank in the back of my truck to haul water from home when it’s a simple walk over to the stock pens to let them drink. Lol. Any tricks I haven’t covered??? Lol and if anyone has a Gatorade flavor that horses usually love I’m all ears!!!  Thanks !

Can’t help you on the. Gatorade but I have really good luck with using the RV filters (Walmart). They take out the smell from the water and the horses are much more likely to drink it. I won’t let mine drink from a public water trough, too many cooties.

Blue gatorade, but not the dark blue.

I forgot to add that these are not public troughs. They are empty pens and the water tanks were dry and I filled them. Lol. So no cooties. However , I did call my vet last year and she said it’s far worse for a horse to go without water than anything they might catch  from the trough  lol  I would rather have a horse with a snotty nose from a trough than a dead one who wouldn’t drink for 4 days lol

I ordered some horse quencher  I’m going to try it in a bucket well before I leave  looks promising

Mine like red (fruit punch) and yellow (lemon lime). They would drink any flavor though but those are the colors/flavors that we usually get them. When i moved from NY to TN thats what i brought to mask other water

Have you tried doing electrolytes in their water to help encourage them to drink? Or even providing them with a form of salt/mineral block?

I haven't used gatorade in a long time but I used to give my paint gelding Cool Blue gatorade when I did, he really liked it. You may also want to be cautious, they have added quite a bit of sugar to gatorade this days.. I husband got some the other day and it had about 70 grams of a sugar in it.

It’s dangerous to give electrolytes if the horse is not drinking enough. It can make things way worse than better. They have access to everything. This only happens at this arena ! Lol. Unfortunately I really need to attend this rodeo! Lol. I’m going to try the quencher. I guess it’s the best you can get. Lol

I've had friends throw a handful of sweet feed in their horses water and worked! Makes sense because every horse likes sweet feed! lol.

One of my geldings LOVES orange.  Just dump a bottle in a bucket and he will slurp it right down.  What he really loves the most is to just eat a handful of the powder.  Once he eats it, it is only a short time until he will go to water.  Works every time to keep him drinking.

We hauled to Arkansas a few summers ago. My horses flat out refused to drink the water at my sisters place. No matter what we did.. we tried powerade, Gatorade, electrolytes, water from their house that was connected to city water, water from their ranch which was from a well.... nothing ... only thing I could do was soak alfalfa cubes into a slop and theyd eat it... that was the only water I could get into them for 3 days we were there. My husbands horse wouldn't eat much of the slop so we resorted to going to the store and buying several gallon jugs of spring water and pour into his bucket, hed drink that ok but who knows what his deal was with the water there. It was so hot and humid I was freaking out. I bought a horse hydrator but I haven't used it so I cant say if theyd go for that or not. When they dont drink it can be such a nightmare!
