I have a young horse that is wanting to put her tongue over the bit. Has anyone experienced this? I have no idea how to fix this, we have been working on this for 3 months and she just wont give. Any help would be appreciated.

I usually put a snaffle with a light weight leather headstall on the horse and let him live in it a day or two. He learns to eat and drink with it and learns to pack the bit. Be sure the headstall is leather so it will break if t gets caught on something.
if you don’t want to let him live in it you can tie the bit to his fore top with a hay string so he can’t get his tongue over it. You can also buy a rubber keeper from a race horse supply that does the same thing.

Have her teeth been looked at by a good dentist? She may have something going on that makes it uncomfortable to hold the bit properly. I would make sure everything looks good in there.

This.... and I never put the bit in their mouth tightly. It is tight enough that it doesn't hit their teeth but loose enough that they have to learn to pick it up and hold it.

Thanks in advance
Have you tryed a bit with a mullet mouth? I had one that hated any type of bit that layed across his tongue, but accepted a mullet mouth piece and carried it really well.

The horse is looking to get the pressure off it's tongue so before tying the tongue I would try a different bit. There are a number of different bits (by various makers) that have tongue relief. I would try that first. Myler makes a series with tongue relief and if you google it there are some youtube videos where they discuss bits for horses that evade the bit.
