Location: Oregon
I know this has been talked about before but couldn’t find anything via the search. I just bought a new to me lq (my first lq) and am wondering what the best way to insure it is? I remember someone quite awhile ago saying they insure them as an RV, is that the best route?

I was told by my agent that I couldn't as an RV beause the "pet" space was more than the camper space. They wouldn't even consider that the first stall is usually used for "stuff" and not a big pet !!!

I think the living space in mine is bigger than the horse area... it’s a 3 horse and the lq space is HUGE

I just bought one too and I have Farm Bureau. I told my agent that it had living qtrs and to make sure they were insured as such. They said no problem.

We are insured through Farm Bureau with all our place and everything else. It is listed as a horse trailer, just make sure you have it insured for enough to cover it.

Ours is insured through our auto policy as a living quarters horse trailer. The tack and interior belongings is insured through our home owners. We did have other insurance agencies deny insuring it but our current one is amazing!

Here in our insurance office we either add a living quarters trailer to the insured homeowners’ policy or their auto depending on the value. Expensive – auto policy, cheap – homeowners. I personally have mine insured on my auto as an RV Trailer much like a livestock or camper trailer would be. Then we add comprehensive and collision insurance to cover if something gets damaged. The liability would extend from the auto pulling the trailer.

I do NOT have a living quarters trailer, but I still have my horse trailer insurance through our auto policy. So I would ask your auto insurance. I think it will ultimately just depend on what rate they charge you, on what your best option will be.
