So I thought it would be fun to share fun NFR facts.  Such as stallions or mares  that qualified for the NFR and if they have offspring that ran at the NFR.  Family members who've qualified.  Anything interesting you have to share!  I love those behind the scenes type factoids!

I'll start.  Dinero qualified and he's had three offspring I can remember qualify.  That's one off the top of my head.

Family members.  Kelly Yates, her brother, and Dad all qualified.  Sherry Cervi and her husband qualified.

Excited for tomorrow night!!!

Molly Montgomery posted interesting facts on FB. Like their are two sets of full offspring there. Eight DTF. It was neat. Three by a Hancock stud I had never heard of and 5 straight cutters.

Did Dinero actually qualify? I mean, I know Sherry ran him there. But I don’t think he was ever the main mount she qualified on. What event did Mike Cervi qualify in? I don’t ever remember him qualifying in an event since his family is a large stock contractor that always has stock at the NFR.

Leslie Lange and Charlie Cole both won their very first AQHA World Champion titles in ‘95 (might have been 96?). They’re good friends. Leslie is part owner in a stock contracting business. Both her and Charlie had animals win Gold Buckles at the same NFR a few years ago. Leslie with a bucking horse and Charlie with Slick.

As for the Yates family...while Kelly, Dick and JD all qualified the same year, you can also add Trey (JD’s son) to the qualifying list when he went in the team roping last year.

Janae Ward won the World on Dynas Plain Special (DeeDee). DeeDee is the dam of JL Dash Ta Heaven that went to the NFR with Bennette Little.

Fallon qualified on Flowers N Money (Flo). She also qualified on BabyFlo who is a daughter of Flo.

I wonder what horse carried the most jockeys to the NFR?

I was thinking of Rare Dillon - he carried three that I remember.

Eagle (cant remember his registered name) carried two.

Dinero I know Tammy ran once but was Sherri's backup that year.

Deb Mohon's horse Brown ran in EVERY performance in 11 National Finals even though he had been badly foundered.  He was the only horse to ever accomplish this.  He was put down because of complications of founder at about 22 years old.

I know the woman who started Friday, Erika Nelson's mount. She's worked closely with Gay Bar Abby Farms. Friday was a cool horse when he was younger, very naturally inclined to barrels and a fun personality. Typical goofy gelding, from what I remember. Glad to see he's had such success!

Sierra Hall Of Fame was Eagle's name and he qualififed with Kassidy Dennison and Kellie Collier although I think Kellie used him sparringly.

Dash Ta Diamonds (Arson) qualified Carlee Pierce but she ended up running Streakin Easy April that year who was later bought by Kellie Collier who also qualified on her. Arson later ran with Sherry but was Callie's backup when she won on Dillion. I can't think of a horse that's carried 3 jockeys to the NFR other than Dillon.

Dudes Compadre carried Angie Meadors and Kay Blandford to NFRs

Heza Bug Leo was hauled and run by Angie Meadors and Jana Bean

MP Quick Money was Dinero's first to run at the NFR. Tammy ran him but I'm pretty sure Roundpen won most of the money to get her there and got hurt prior to the NFR. Can't remember...

Fallon T also ran Dr Nick Bar at the finals, or should I say had him at the finals. Dr Nick Bar is the sire of Two world champions- Sugar Moon Express (2008 & 2011) and Flos Heiress (2014)- Which in itself is extremely impressive.

Here is a not so fun fact. I can't get the NFR on anything, Fire TV, cell phone, tablet. Best I could do was PRORODEOTV.COM. Since I don't live in Canada, I will have to wait 12 hours till it is streamed. Ugh guess that is better than nothing.

JETONFORPAY was at the NFR twice with 2 different jockeys. 1985 Martha Josey took him as her back up horse and ran him. 1987 Betty Roper qualified on him and ran him at the NFR. Betty actually trained him for Linda Sullivan who futuried him and Betty went on and ran him as a derby horse Martha borrowed him to take with her in 85. Linda sold him in 88 and shortly after he was snake bitten and passed away. He was a son of Jets Pay Day..

Dillion sure is an incredible animal. 3 jockeys to the NFR as their main mount!

3 for Arson but he was more of a backup horse then.

Carlee Pierce mare Lola maybe?... I believe also went to Jana Bean in a prior year??

Another fun one is the Wright Family.

Rusty(saddlebronc), Ryder (sadlebronc), and Stetson (bull riding) are brothers.  All competing this year.

also...

Jesse & Spencer (both Saddle Bronc) are brothers, and uncles to the 3 fellas above.    Talk about a legacy!

Martha Josey qualified for the NFR four decades. She was trying for 5 but there was a gate malfunction in Austin and Red Man Bay fell. Martha got her head on concrete and I didn't think she was going to make out of that one. That finished her off for the year but tough old Martha was very lucky. She recovered just fine. She is one tough old gal!

This happen to Martha again?!!!! In 2001 at the ANHA Shootout or NBHA state finals in 1999 I cant remember which one in Austin, this happen to her, someone didnt shut the gate behind her when she went in for her run and she could not shut her horse down coming out of the arena, she and horse hit the concrete hard. Was a scary thing..

This happened the PRCA rodeo probably 15 years ago. Martha has had so many bad horse wrecks I can't count them all. She is like a Timex. Takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. She is a tough one.

If your talking more than just barrels I dont think any horse got more people to the NFR than Cassidy's Willie. He was one bad a$$ dogging horse. I miss watching him make runs. Money shot every time.

Wasn't there a calf roping horse that made a lot more of runs for numerous guys?  Seems my brain is saying Pearl??

Are there any horses that qualified in more than one event?

Brittany Pozzi's Steeley (Steele Magnolias) ran at the NFR first with Jana Bean and then with Brittany. Can Man (Freckles Ta Fame) first ran with Brittany and then now with Shali.

Jill Moody borrowed and ran Chasin Firewater at the NFR in 2011, and now Brittney has Babe on the Chase who's a daughter of his.

Mulberry Canyon Moon ran and Sharpie has been there with Stevi a time or two.

Didn't Angie Meadors have Heza Bug Leo at the NFR, and also Janna Bean?

Scooter is one bad cat in steer wrestling.  Joe B said last night "they've won umpteen million on him just here in Vegas"!!!

This year brings us a very real possibility of having the first roughie all around winner since Ty Murray in the 90s

There is the Duvall family also. Roy Duvall his nephew Spud Duvall and great nephew Riley Duvall all qualifiers at the NFR in steer wrestling. Roy qualified 24 times. Roy won the title in 1967,69, and 72. Rileys father Sam is also his hazer. They host a huge steer wrestling event here in Checotah Oklahoma every year. A few more fun facts. Checotah handed the NFR 6 world champion steer wrestlers. Roy Duvall, Ote Berry 85,90,91 and 1995, Teddy Johnson 2003, Benny Combs 1955, Billy  Hale 1971 and Willard Combs 1957. Willards mare Baby Doll Combs took his brother Benny to win the title in 55 and took Willard to win the title in 57 where she also carried the riders that won 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in the NFR standings. She was 14.1 hands and weighted 1030. She made the cover of life magazine also. Look her up and read about her. She was amazing. Willard has a statue of her in his front yard. He has passed but I have visited that statue many times. He was my neighbor.  Alot of legends from Checotah Oklahoma.

Skeeter (dad) and Zeke (son) Thurston both made the finals.

Sterling and Jacobs Crawly (brothers) both made the finals this year.

He didn't make it this year, but CoBurn Bradshaw married a Wright girl.

Riley and Brady Minor have made the finals quite a few times together in the team roping.

Stran Smith, I do believe, is Shada Brazile's uncle?

Shad Mayfield's dad Sylvester made the finals in the 80s.

Cody Wright is a 2x world champion (13x qualifier), and is the father of Rusty, Ryder and Stetson. He's also an older brother to twins Jesse (1x winner, 7x qualifier) and Jake (hasn't won a championship, but also 7x qualifier), and Spencer (1x winner, 2x qualifier), plus there's a couple other brothers that are also bronc riders (haven't made the finals).

There was Jaguar whom Trevor and Tuff both rode at the NFR.  Think he was sold to a HS kid then bought back by the Cooper's if I remember correctly.

My husband is rooting for this to happen! He's a bareback rider and always roots for roughies over ropers.
