Is there a list of studs that have made their way from the United States to south of the border? A friend and I were talking hypotheticals, and there were a couple of stud fees we couldn't find. We weren't sure if these studs had died and we missed it, or they are in Brazil.

On The Money Red went there too.  Doubt he's still alive.  He could barely walk after being there only a short time.

OTMR died of cancer at danny's. Designer Red was the one who went to brazil. Yes I saw that video of him & it made me sick. Made me sick that danny sold him to. Personally I would of kept that horse forever. But some people care more about a buck than I do

A story I hate......Ferdinand won the Kentucky Derby in 1986 with Willie Shoemaker on board.  It was a masterful race.  Ferdinand was sold to a Japanese interest,  shipped to Japan, and after he lost his usefulness went to a slaughterhouse.  Keep these great horses America.

Excuse my ignorance,  but why is it that these outstanding studs are having a hard time staying alive once they leave? And why are they going there anyway?

I think that because the seasons are opposite ours has something to do with short lives and being a science teacher and this is probably crazy but because of the shape of the earth currents turn the opposite direction. Like water in the toilet swirls in the opposite direction. Some animals don't adapt well to environmental changes like this. One other thing is the kinds of grasses and grains are different from what is grown in the US.

The horses that are raised there seem to do OK.

Are there any horses that have come from Brazil to America? I don't know the rules for importation. If so, are they having trouble adapting also? This is really interesting to me.

I know their import policies are super strict. One of the BB's is from Brazil or lives there now and there was a super cool thread. They only take stallions and mares but I dont know if they ever import here. Thats a good questions.

I am interested to know why the death rate, I know Firewater Fiesta was sold to Brazil but couldnt make the trip so she lives her days out here flushing embryos.

Brisco County Jr, Plain Eye Opening both went. Brazil doesn’t have the veterinarian medicine that we do. Nor the surgical facilities. It seems like they have a lot more diseases there too. I’m pretty sure

Royal Quick Dash went there.

Holland Ease did double time here and in Brazil.

A lot of these horses that we heard of dying in Brazil were not exactly young when they were sold and shipped. If you are tracking horses that are 18+ years or older and their death rates it's always going to be higher even if they were being sold within the US. Holland Ease, Dash For Perks - not exactly "spring chickens". It's not very good business to buy high dollar horses and ship them only to have them die within months.

California Chrome's sale contract included a clause that he will return to the USA to live out his retirement. A lesson was definitely learned due to the Fernindand slaughter experience.

They definitely don't put the horse's interests first, futuritying them as three year olds, for example, so could the treatment of their horses be different down there?
