| Psalm 60:1-6 O God, You have cast us off; you have broken us down; you have been displeased; Oh, restore us again! You have made the earth tremble; you have broken it; heal its breaches, for it is shaking. Yo uhave shown Your people hard things; You have made us drink the wine of confusion. Youu have given a banner to those who fear you, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Have you ever noticed that when something takes you by surprise, your first reaction is usually the wrong one? As spiritual as we think we are, we do not seem to be wired for the unexpected. Now, that does not mean we stay that way, or that our minds and spirits don't get into gear, and we do the right thing. It's just that when life throws us a cruve ball, it takes us time to make an attitude adjustment. This seems to be where we find King David and Israel in Psalm 60. If we put Scripture together from 2 Samuel 8,10 and 1 Chronicles 18, David was winning battles and making a name for himself. While he was in the north fighting the Arameans(Syrians), the Edomites attacked Israel from the sound and did a great deal of damage. As you read Psalm 60, you see the people's reactions to the news. They felt that God was angry with them and had rejected them; they were stunned and dismayed. However, in verses 6-12 God has spoken in His holiness; "I will rejoice; I will divided Shechem and measure out the Valley of Succoth. Gilead is mine and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the helmet of my head; Judah is my lawgiver. Moabis my washpot; over Edom I will cast my shoe; Philistia , shout in triumph because of Me: Who will bring me to the strong city" Who will lead me to Edom? I it not You, O God, who casts us off? And You, O God who do not go out with our armies? Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is useless. Through God we will do valiantly, for it is He who shall tread down our enemies. David got word from God that their enemies would be be defeated and he was quick to BELIEVE it. He sent Jacob and his brothers Abishai and the army south, STANDING ON God's promises and TRUSTING the Lord FOR VICTORY. And that's exactly what happened. David TRUSTED IN the Lord, and the Lord HONORED his FAITH. He didn't save you to spoil your life, but to BLESS YOU, and be glorified THROUGH you. When the surprises come, STAND ON THE PROMISES OF God. For it is WITH God ALL things ARE POSSIBLE Matthew 19:26. Father God, guide me today to do all things that will bring glory and honor to You AMEN |
