I have had a couple of horses who had it and ran well afterwards, but we always had to feed and water at ground level after the surgery.

In the last year or so I have had really good luck treating for EPM if a horse started to show signs of a flapper issue.  Turns out that several TB trainers down here will treat for EPM at the first sign of an airway issue.  Doesn't always help but it's worth trying before a more invasive procedure.

If they need it, they need it. I would make sure I used a surgeon that does a

lot of them. There's a certain amount of feel that required to adjust it correctly.
