Best practices in mares? When do you start giving it? Is it daily through spring into summer? Loading dose? Experiences please!
Also have heard you can give it to geldings who are *too*intersted* in mares. Anybody done this?????
We had a mare that cycled so hard she would lay down on panels trying to get relief. We tried a few different avenues and only Regumate worked. There wasn't a loading dose but it was daily of 12ml (dose by weight). We just would dose with a syringe orally - there is some kind of dosing 'gun' out there, but we didnt want to pay for it. If I had to do it again I would probably try it because with a syringe sometimes my mare wouldnt get the full dose (spitting it out). If we missed more than 1 day you could see her start back up. We would start dosing at the first sight of her first cycle and would keep dosing until we were done competing in the fall. You have to be very very careful dosing as it is dangerous for humans. I remember I got it on my chin once and my chin went numb. You need to read up and understand the dangers of it - it is not to be messed around with. |
