New farrier trimmed my horse too short and vet has him on Equioxx.  I have been using Magic Cushion but he is super sore and just wondering if anyone had any tricks they use to help a horse that was trimmed too short.  Today I cut out a pad from memory foam and wrapped it on the foot with vet wrap.  I have never had one messed up this bad that they wanted to lay down.  Thanks in advance.

7% iodine painted on soles. Will toughen up the feet.  

That happened to a horse of mine years ago - he also lay down to avoid the pain. I had a vet come out and they gave him IV pain meds. Then a farrier gave him pour-in pads. 

If you have him in a stall I would add alot of shavings. How long has it been since the trimming?

I thought about pour in pads or glue on shoes but he is walking on his sole on one foot.  It is the worse because it is a bit club footed.  I thought about putting him in a stall and bed him down but he seems to like to stand in a mushy part of the pasture when he is standing.

He was done 9 days ago.

I had one get trimmed too short many years ago, and it was just time and bute that helped him, I didnt want anybody touching his feet untill he grew out some. 

Another thing that would really help your gelding out would be some Soft Rides or Cavallo boots, they dont cost as much as the soft rides but they really do come in handy when stuff like this happens.

I have been looking at boots and trying to figure out what was best.  The memory foam seems to have given him a good bit of relief so boots might help.  He isn't getting worse but not getting better fast enough for me.  The vet says time too.  I got up the nerve to ask the farrier was he sure he should be taking that much off and he said he knew what he was doing.He came highly recommended...

I bet there is more underlying issues.  I would keep investgating.

Get some isoxuprine from your vet. Super cheap and it works amazing. 10 pills 2x daily for a week then taper off. It works amazing for stone bruises and feet soreness. You will see results often on day 2. 

I went ahead and called the vet. He had me switch to banamine, put him in the stall with thick shavings and wants me to get some soft ride.  He will be out tomorrow to check for laminitis.  Thank you all for our replies.  You really helped me realize I needed to be doing more!

Hawthorne makes a product called Hoof Freeze that does a pretty good job of giving quick relief.  It is a hardner but also contains some kind of topical pain relief.  It is somewhat difficult to find and not cheap. Last time I bought I had to go direct to Hawthorne's website.  I just keep it on hand for just the kind of situations you have..  

Durasole worked really well for my flat footed horses last year when we pulled shoes for Winter and he could hardly walk. I noticed a difference in about 2 days. It is just a formaldehyde hoof hardner. It even allowed me to run him within 5 days although I did use soft rides to get him from the trailer to the arena area so avoid the rocks.

Can I ask wher you live ?  I know a fantastic vet / farrier who has my horse back on the road to recovery. He got white line last year & then laminitis & the start of coffin bone rotation. This man is amazing at his job with feet. He is in texas & travels. We live in okla. My regular vet recommended me to him when Slyder just wasn't improving. 

Update.  He had 3 abscesses, two in one front foot and one in the other.  He is walking much better today.  I was so worried about laminitis.

I have some of that.  How often did you use it.  I just started it once a day.
