Any disadvantages?

Why not, I have seen alot of cutting saddles in the barrel pen in my years of going, the only disadvantage I can see about using a reining saddle is that they are a bit heavier. But ride in that works for you.

I can't remember the girls name, but she ran a big bay horse in a reining saddle and went to the NFR. I think whatever is comfortable for you to ride in and that keeps you secure should be what you go with. I know for me, I need something that I can move my legs in, I have tried running in my rope saddle but the legs  don't move enough for me to hustle my mare the way I need too.  I wish they did because it is the most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden in.

It is all in what you are used to and feel the most comfortable/secure in.
