What is your process to take care of these darn abcesses.  I'm wrapping in poltice pads and I was told to start soaking for 10 min in epson salt and betidine solution.

has it busted? if not hand walk them.  I had one I thought would never bust! it was a couple weeks old so I loaded up went to the vet and by the time I got there it had busted!

We had a calf horse that had an abcess off and on for 6 mths!  We didnt know it was an abacess!  He would be head bobbing lame off and on you never knew when so my parents sold him to my uncle and my uncle rode/rope anyways and it busted after a week!

Learned a hugt lesson there!  Now that was way back in the day when you didnt really take horses to the vet.  Parents just assumed he was a crippled!

So personally if you know for sure its an abcess movement!

Another one , if they are shod, pull the shoe!!!! I had one once off and I'm lame for 3 weeks!! Soaked, packed, better.  3 days later started to get sore again...... repeat.  Called vet, they said keep soaking. Finally called the farrier and he came and pulled the shoe. The INSTANt he pulled that shoe it burst and ran out the bottom!!!! The shoe pressure was keeping it in!!! Soaking would help it drain a little they said just enough for pressure relief , then it built back up again. Lol
