Looking for a little advice I'm high risk for covid my white blood cells are at 1.0 and doctors can't figure out why said probably age related to age so my co workers husband has the virus and she comes to work until store manager found out and said she can't come back unless she takes a test and its negative but even if it's negative she's still living with her husband and I'm afraid of catching it she has had a horrible horrible cough for two weeks but has always said it's from air conditioner and I'm scared she will give it to me and they know I'm high risk and her husband comes in and shakes my hand every time (I sanatize) and the guy I work under said don't worry his daughter had it last month and he came to work

I don't know what to suggest . I wish you could just leave & work somewhere else but i'm sure you just can't do that as jobs aren't easy to come by these days. Your boss is wrong. Those people should not be at work. I was at my dr's the other day for my yearly check up. He said covid has increced big time here in okla. He said they went from 7 hospitalized for it to 25 & it's rising. I can't believe there are people who think this is a government control thing cause it's not & it's nothing like the flu. Like you I am high risk to. I have c.o.p.d. with 41% lung function. I want to slap the people in stores who won't wear a mask & have no consiteration for others. God Bless You

Has the death rate gone up? My dad has COPD and is 89 and if he didn't have to wear a mask, he wouldn't. My mom has had a major heart attack and is 79 and doesn't mind the mask. Both are still very active. Dad still helps work cattle, cuts and rakes hay and does mechanic work on the tractors. My mom watches her great grandson, who is 3 years old, twice a week.  She hasn't the last month though because she got a bad case of shingles, but is recovering nicely now. We never social distanced from each other. THAT would bring my mom to her knees. My aunt recently passed away, she was 93. She had a major stroke right before Covid hit. As long as she could visit with dad, her only sibling alive, she was willing to go through therapy at the rehab center. Once they shut down all visits and only allowed my dad to talk to her on the phone once a week she started going down hill. She passed 2 weeks ago. It was obvious that being kept from family was a big factor in her passing. So if you are very worried about your health and it sounds like both of you should be, then don't go out, and if you have to wear a mask, wash your hands and limit who you allow in your work place. Do curb side service for your groceries and at other stores that offer it. Take all the recommended precautions. But I don't think it's fair to hold the majority of us hostage because of your health situation. I wear a mask in the stores but the minute I am outside I take it off. I have a respitory infection that I haven't had in years BECAUSE of having to wear a mask. I know I sound insensitive to your situation and I don't mean it to sound that way, but our country and the way of life we all love is in real danger here from a sickness with recovery rate of 99%.

Very well said Glenda, I agree with you 110%... My Husbands parents live in McAllen, and both are in their 80's father in law has had more then a few heart bypass's and they both came down with the Virus they dont know how they got it but they both did, worn the mask everywhere they went, followed all the precautions to the tee and still came down with it, they distance them selfs the whole ten yards. And they are recovering from it, Father in law its taking longer but hes getting there. I cant stand wearing a mask, I'll wear it inside a store, but when nobody is around me then I'll take it off when shopping, most of the time I dont even but it back on, I dont look at anybody any different if not wearing a mask, thats their deal, and as soon as I hit that door leaving I take the mask off.

If you are worried about the virus OP then ask to work at home or quit.. If nobody is following the rules in your office then I would take it up with the head person in your office.

I wear my mask while at work but take it off while I have lunch and we all share the same lunch room and a few days ago she kept coughing right behind me so it's possible I have it but I think they should make her stay home until both her and her husband test clear

The reason so many people think that its the government thing is bc the government is paying for positives!  how crazy is that!  If the government was paying for the negatives, how many negatives do you think there be???

I know for a fact that if you have just a runny nose you will more than likely get a positive result and that is in Okla and doesnt matter if that person has no symptoms and has a history of severe allergies!

If you are worried bout other people not wearing a mask and if the mask is supposed to protect you even tho it says on the box it wont, and if you wear the mask what difference does it make if the other person wears a mask? and it also has been said the virus can live on surfaces too.  So there more than one way to catch it.

The virus is very serious, but you still gotta have common sense bout the whole thing and look at the whole picture.  Bc the government paying for positives we dont know what the true numbers are! But one person dies from it that bad enough!  and should use caution but dont quit living!

God did not intend for us to live like this! Social distancing and masks and fear!

My heart breaks for all that was in nursing homes and hospital during the shutdown and to be cutoff!!!! and I understand cutting off visitors but your husband/wife or kids or family!

When it is my time to go God already knows how I am going.  I dont need to fear the virus, wreck, or being shot or anything bc I dont know how I will go (though I hope I just go to sleep and wake up in Heaven! lol)  but God does know and I know where I am going so doesnt matter how I go bc its my time and I dont get to decide that but I am smart enough to be cautious and not quit living til that time comes.

God Bless!

By the way even tho I dont wear masks unless absolutely have to, and at work we have to wear mask and finally got the ok for face shield, doesnt mean I dont have considerations for the people that do wear masks! and I still have consideration for the ones that dont wear masks!!!

It goes both ways!

One of the things that I do is I try to do the grocery pickup! which I love and wished I had been doing when they first came out with! I save so much money and time bc I just get what needed and not tempted for other things! and I hate grocery shopping!!!  I dont have to stand in line! and It saves me well over an hour from shopping!!! So more time for home and horses!

Thanks for showing complete disregard for the people that, like you, have health conditions but ours prevent us from wearing a mask. I'm autistic and people treat me like garbage for not wearing a mask - thanks for making the world a better place. Masks don't work - the just don't (since I'm autistic, I spend hundreds and thousands of hours researching, I can't help it. The data just simply does not support it). They cause me to completely shut down/panic/full on autistic melt down. That is not only humiliating, but due to the lovely people in the world like you, who treat us like crap, I am NOT openly autistic, due to the stigma people have about it. This lack of science takes a significant toll on my health and NOBODY CARES. But screw us right?!

PS I HAVE A MEDICAL BACKGROUND.

ETA this post is in response to the person saying they want to slap people who don't wear masks.

I think its really unfair to say you want to slap someone just because they are not wearing a mask, you dont know that person that person may have health issues to where they cant wear a mask, if you are wearing a mask whats the big deal... And just stay away from the ones that are not wearing a mask, I dont judge anyone thats not wearing a mask, but thats just me..

I have a question. Here they now have Covid in the nursing homes & in the VA nursing home. They have been on lockdown since March no is allowed in Medical staff only. The staff all wear mask & have from the start. Theirs are medical grade mask and they are trained to wear them properly. My question is if mask stop the virus then why are people in nursing homes getting it.

What do you do for work? Is there a work from home option?

Have you talked to your employer, or HR about your concerns?

I would start with your supervisor and go up from there if needed.

Unfortunatley it might come down to do you need the job or can you afford to stay home and protect your health.

If your WBC is only 1000, you are taking a big chance, in my opinion, especially with this Covid pandemic.  I would keep an eye out for when a vaccine becomes available.  Obviously, it's your decision, but if a vaccine becomes available, read as much as you can about it, then discuss it with your doctor.  Some vaccines may not be appropriate for someone with a markedly lowered neutrophil count and they may be contraindicated.  A vaccine may be available in a month or two.
Be careful and use all precautions.  You are in a high risk category.

We've had facilities up here where it is transmitted in the break rooms when staff each lunch unmasked. Pair that with improper use of ppe and failing to wash hands correctly and that's how it is spread

How do you know it's the break room where it is being transmitted? Masks don't protect you from the virus. The mask company tells you right on the packaging it's not going to protect you. My husband eats at a restaurant or the company cafeteria every day and has not been infected nor has my son who also eats in a break room with the other shop guys. They could have been infected anywhere in the workplace.

Well thanks a bunch for bumping this back up.  It kind of shows how much you all care.  Here is a person afraid to go to work because of her health.  So instead of making her feel better about it or offering much advice.  I appears quite a few decided to tell her how masks don't work or reasons why they refuse ro wear them.  Now I'm happy about all of you who have had Covid and recovered just fine, because it was just like the flu.  I don't think people who have lost loved ones feel so lucky.

I'm truly sorry for Donna Kay Rule and others at the NFR, I think it will be interesting to see how many are left after 10 days.  You know if you were going you would have been very careful about who you let in your bubble.  I believe it's a blessing she is feeling fine but it will sure make me rethink my own bubble.  Especially with the numbers so high.

What has shocked and bothered me most is not one of you has ask about the person who started the thread.

How are you doing Myhre?  Hope all is well.

Bumping up for Palopony. And this thread is form 10/25/2020 so it a fairly new thread..

That's just a nasty post on your part, Palopony.  You never seem to miss a chance to admonish everyone on BHW, do you?  What advice did you have to offer?  You're almost as bad as Mecon.

I actually sent her a pm the day she posted it because I knew anything I said would turn into just this.

Did you miss bashing me today?
