I am wondering what you guys have in your stalls and really like? We built our barn three years ago and went with stall savers but I want to replace them with something else. Thinking stall mats but thickness, brand etc?

I want a nice comfortable surface for my horses!

I'm just curious why you'd want to go from Stall Savers to the mats? What is it you are unhappy with?

In the theee years I have had them I have already had to replace them once because the fabric tears. And the holes that are supposed to allow drainage just clog and don't really work. Plus they don't provide any cushion at all and you have to use tons of bedding.

I do have two horses that are shod and are stall walkers. The barefoot horse that stands in one spots is in much better condition but the drainage still anoys me since that is the whole point. I even contacted them to make sure I was using the right kind of bedding.

I did the rock and everything under just as they say you should. ??‍??

What I did was got the asphalt milling that they chip up the old hwy and used it.  It lasted bout 10 years and just now getting small area with hole bc I have geldings and they like to pee in same spot! and I dont put shavings in and bc horse had surgery I put alot and the stalls are soft! and easy to clean! and drains really nice even tho I packed it down long time ago.

I am doing it again at the new place only thing is dont have a packer this time and wont be able to pack before we move so I guess Ill find out is I like it loose.  But we did make it deep.

and its the best thing for a base for anything! especially if you have mud a lot! I hate walking in mud around the barn!

I put down ab3 rock then just used the stall mats that tractor supple sells.  They have been down since 2011 and one needs redone.  The only problem I really have with them is that I couldn't figure out a way to hook them together so they shifted some and then stuff will get under the edges.
