| Has anyone ever seen or heard of a wellbred Appaloosa doing well at the big barrel racing shows? I was just watching the BFA and saw one run a 16.1 in both rounds and was just curious. |

Sorry, this was a joke I heard at a rodeo in Las Vegas and I remembered it just now. I used to run barrels against a girl from Hartner, KS who had a really good Appy. Her sister went to the NFR and for the life of me I can't remember her name. I think she rode a Joak stallion. |

| Appy's have gotten a bad rap for awhile. My family has been friends with an appaloosa owner since both my mom and him were kids. They have some nice, nice apps. They are just now starting to get into the barrel racing side of things. I do beleive there's one who's by Dash Ta Fame, and of course now I can't find the stallion ad. His horses are running in the 1D at App shows. He's run 3D against the likes of Randee Prindle and Red Man Jones. They just aren't out there like so many other breeds are. I do beleive BBR is starting an Appy incentive, so maybe more will happen. |

| I really like the Appaloosa Stallion that is just starting be offered to the public named Ivory King. He is beautiful and I can't wait to see what his babies do once they come of age. I have an own daughter of Frenchmans Guy that I would love to breed to him but something just keeps stopping me. |

I thought hes been standing to the public for a while now. I like him, hes got some good color and a really good built to him, I love his short back and long underneath, nice hip and shoulder, not to many Ivory James studs I like out there but this one is nice. I have seen some Ivory James studs that should be cut.. |

| I feel like apps used to be more popular than they are now but I could be wrong about that, you just dont see that many around here anymore. We had a local girl back in the day (25+ years ago) that used to smoke everyone from local to state/ regional shows and ammy rodeos. She had a string that were gritty as all get out, super hearty health wise and it didnt matter what the ground was like, pen setup was, mud, snow, whatever. If she was there with those spotted ponies, you were running for second. I understand things were certainly different back then, but still. I'd be curious to see how they held up against todays competition AND the care we give our horses now. They didnt have magnetic, lights, supplements, all the fancy stuff we have to spoil our athletes now. These guys worked cattle during the week and were hauled all over on the weekends in a stock trailer. ha. |

| Whoever said Apps are slow...........well, I beg to differ. It depends on their breeding and conformation just like any other horse. My App has won about $20k on the track, but he's about 7/8 quarter horse when you go through his pedigree. I would think this is pretty typical. lol. So yeah, registered App ~ but pretty much a QH> I have riddden quarter horses off the track all my life, and I'm pretty sure, real sure, he could run with or outrun every one of them. He's just beginning his barrel racing career, but feel good about him |

Location: Slipping down the slope of old age. Boo hoo. | My very loud-colored Appaloosa earned me college rodeo scholarships and we were in the top 3 in all three of our events in our region the three years I college rodeoed on him. He was so solid and consistent -- super barrel horse and just as superb at roping and goat-tying. I was honored to sit on him. For me, it's about the individual. I also had a super nice buckskin Paint mare as well as a nice bay QH. If they do their job, I don't mind their color! |

| I am not an Appaloosa fan at all. The only time I have ever been hurt bad enough to go to the hospital was on an Appaloosa. I have seen some nice barrel horses that were exceptionally nice. As with paints many have subtle markings and you would not even know they are Apps. People who are that narrow minded either never make it out of their back yard or run 4 D times and hate the successful people that beat them. |

Have you seen her Wappazun gelding run? I think his first out was the BFA Juvenile. He is stunning -- big black with white blanket and is SOOOOO well patterned. Look out for him in the future!!! Hopefully, Shotzie will grow a bit more tail as she gets older..... we can hope. Still, totally love her!!! :) |

Man those were the days..

I believe that her maiden name was Susie Lockwood and she had an awesome little app horse. Her and Jack would have gotten married in the mid to late 70's but later divorced. |

Location: mi | <object type="nested/pressable" width="300" height="150" data-mce-fragment="1"> Paint Me Dark, the little Appaloosa that could. A year ago, in this same arena, she won the first go of the futurity and then the average. She had won the BFA Kindergarten futurity a few weeks before but was just starting her futurity year. Now here we are, a year later and she wins the open at the Turkey Run with over 500 entries and against some of the best horses out there. What a futurity year! She’s won 9 futurity races and has earnings over $20k even with being grounded thanks to COVID. She is also finishing in the top 20 of the BFA standings. What a way to end her futurity year! I couldn’t ask for a better trainer and jockey for her than Angel Rae Miller, who loves her like her own. What a team these two are to watch. I’m sad that her futurity year is coming to an end, but I’d say this win is a good indication of great things to come from this gritty little spotted filly with the heart of a lion |
