I am just asking for suggestions as to what I might try on a horse that has a wound that won't heal.  I had the Vet out a month ago to see what was on his elbow and she thought it was a sarcoid.  She cleaned it out and trimmed off some skin and she gave me a round of antibotics.  Wound still has not closed over and I have tried toothpaste (did absolutely nothing) tried Underwoods, the Pink stuff, some other wound stuff.  Nothing has helped.  It looks better but still not healed over.  Any suggestions?

I am not sure what type of wound this is but this is what has always worked for us.....Many years ago, we had a horse with a wound that just would not heal. Our vet (well known horse vet in MO) suggested squirting straight Penicillin (NOT Combiotic) into the wound. Since that time we used it on every would on horse, cattle, dogs and even cats. It has healed them up FAST.

Can you show us the wound, (Picture) maybe we can have/give better suggestions if we can see what you are dealing with.

Any wound that won't heal has a reason why. I'd call the vet out and have them culture it so I knew EXACTLY what I was dealing with instead of just treating with no idea what the problem is.

Being on the elbow, just the motion of laying down and getting up could be keeping it aggravated.  Maybe a few days in soft bedding?

My mare snagged her elbow on a screw last year trying to get herself bred by a gelding through the fence. And it took 2.5 months for the hole to fully close up and heal over. I do think with that location it does take longer. She needed stitches, but given how it was they'd just rip open anyway. I would still give your vet a ring and see what they suggest. With sarcoids you tend to make them worse by trying to physically remove them, so its possible that if it was a sarcoid you've now really ****ed it off. The same mare has a sarcoid by her head and with the Rx cream it took months to resolve and new healthy skin to form. About 6 months for all the hair to grow back. They're a slow healing thing

The Vet didn't really remove anything just flaps of skin and hair and opened the hole so it could drain better.  It doesn't drain and the wound has shrunk but I guess I am thinking it is just taking a really long time to heal.  And yes it probably does get irratated when he lays down and not sure if it was a capped elbow either.

I'm not sure what type of wound that is but I used Equaide on a hoof heel bulb laceration and it healed up really well! No burning and no smell. My horse is super finicky and he doesn't mind it at all.

edited to add. I'd find your local equine natural care rep and get him on infection wipeout or immune herbs to also help the healing.  Or silver lining herbs

With a wound on an elbow where it moves a lot plus being aggravated by laying down on it, it is going to heal slow anyhow.

Another reason for a wound not closing or healing could be a foreign object working it's way out. It probably isn't something as serious as a bone sequestration but it could be as simple as a grass seed or sand that become embedded from laying down on that elbow.
