My horses get a very small amount of oats just as a carrier for their curost total support. I'm wondering if its possible to give them a small amount race day a couple hours out as a boost? There are tons of threads on oats I've read through, just didn't see anything specifically about race day pep. lol Is anyone even feeding them anymore? THANKS!

I hadn't been able to find nice clean oats locally in a very long time so I just quit feeding them and looking. Seemed they were either really small, and dusty or had a bunch of other little things in them. I always thought there didn't offer much in the way of nutrition and being high in starch I know a lot of people shy away from them now, but I could see how they might give a short term boost... give it a try!

If your basic feeding program is providing the digestive energy that the horse requires it is unlikely that you will see a performance difference. It may make the horse a little more on the muscle, but my experience has been that doing so will not translate to improved times.
