Going to an equine hospital today to do some flexions and x-rays. The Farrier on site wants to pull his shoes to do the flexion test. But I always thought flexions were usually done with their shoes on. Can someone give me an insight? It's 0° here today, should be fun ??

I guess I've always done them with them on. Asking the current owner if there are any special shoes they put on or any issues with the feet in the past.

I've only ever had a hospital remove shoes for radiographs in the hoof. Otherwise, flexion tests were all done as the horse was currently shod. Any horse could be sensitive to a normal landing on a hard surface if their shoes were just pulled.

That's what I thought! I know we are going to pull shoes for radiographs today. But I definitely want to do flexions first with his shoes on.

Whats the reason to pull shoes for a flexion test, I would ask this farrier or vet? You tell them to leave the shoes be untill the flexion testing is over.
