Thinking about sending a horse off to swim for a few weeks. I want to respect my budget but I also don't want to waste my money if I don't send him for a long enough time.
How long do you like to send them to feel like you see/feel results?

I normally send my guy off for about 2 weeks each spring. This gives him a great jump start to getting into shape so that I can be ready for the BBR finals. I don't like riding in the cold and even in Southeast Missouri the winters are cold haha This year we did a special and he is going to be gone for a whole month. I can't wait to get him back. He is going to be so strong and i'm gonna be so far behind haha

We live in northwest Iowa and there are several places for us to swim horses in Southwest South Dakota. While I personally have never swam a horse, several girls I run against send them away for 30 to get in shape and they seem to really like it. I can always tell a difference in the way a horse looks when it gets done swimming.

I've had experience with swimming them myself, and with sending one off after an injury to make sure we started his rehab correctly. Two weeks of consistant swimming will yield easily seen resultsand gives them a leg up on improving their wind. 3 weeks is even better and 4 weeks is the bomb dot com.

My horse is heading to the "spa" (aquatred) for 4 weeks in starting mid- April. We are healing up a partial tear to the SFDFT and my vet said two weeks would be sufficient, but four would be the bomb dot com, so four it is. This is the first time I've ever sent one off, but I have a feeling I will send him each spring to help with strengthening and conditioning those soft tissues.

I really think it's money well spent - but it does sting the pocketbook.
