Looks like this is pretty bad over in Europe. I heard there was 1 case in Ocala, FL ?? Man, I hope this doesn't become a thing again here.  I didn't know much about being an outbreak again until my mom told me a bunch of the bigger horseshows had been canceled because of it. (She was a horseshow secretary for years while I was still competing) she still talks to all the people who put on the larger hunter jumper shows. Such a scary thing.

Yes, there is one at the World Equestrian Center. They have quarantined the barn. Everyone is having to follow protocols and no new horses are allowed in to certain areas.

The World Equestrian Center is fantastic. Each stall has its own fans, mats. It has a gas station, grocery store snd restaurants too.

we can't wait for November when Fiddlers Turkey Run is held there. The first big barrel race. They have 12? I believe arenas. 1,200? Stalls.

Amazing facility! Wowza! I've been trying to find more information about where there are cases and quarantines.. I saw on one group an entire barn is under quarantine because there have been 9 horses euthanized because of EHV complications.  It's so devastating

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL CLUB MEMBERS

Some of you will already be aware that the largest outbreak of Equine Herpes EHV Type 1 is occuring in Europe. It started in Valencia on thier Show jumping Tour but has rapidly spread to Germany, France, Belgium and Doha - all as a result of horses from that tour travelling to these countries. The incubation period is more than 20 days so the riders/grooms have not known that the horses are ill. Sadly it is the neurological variant of EHV1 and so far 9 horses have died and at least 100 more are infected.

There were several tours in the Iberian peninsula and the horses will have travelled from all over Europe all staying in stop overs across Europe. These stop overs are also routinely used by hauliers carrying imported horses for dealers etc. so there is a huge risk that this will reach our shores.

International Horse Sport (FEI) is cancelled across all mainland western Europe for the next month and all equine activity in France & Germany has also been cancelled for the same period.
I am attaching a plea from Pennie Cornish, owner of Greenacres Equestrian asking all horse owners to be vigilant especially if you know of anyone purchasing a horse that might have been imported since 1st February.

If you are not aware of the severity of this illness you will find videos etc on UKSJ on Facebook - some of them are too worrying to want to repost.

Please copy & paste this to as many people as you can - it is only the vigilance of horse owners that will prevent this spreading into our country. If it does you will be waving goodbye to the prospect of any horse sport for a long time.

Very worrisome for horse owners and breeders, this is something that we need to take serious..

Thank you Want2Chase3 for giving the heads up..

We had an outbreak of this a few years ago here. They canceled a bunch of events for a couple months.
