| Needing info on how to tell if your horses' hocks or whorl bones are bothering them? I know not a lot of ppl or vets address whorl bones and I'm not sure why? If anyone has knowledge or experience, I would love to hear about it. Thank you!! |

Location: Texas | Years ago, Dr Nichols at Marietta Vet Clinic injected the whorlbones on a colt that I had. It did help, but I am definitely not an expert on the topic. I do know that whorlbones are actually just the greater trochanteric bursas, not a bone or joint. It would be similar to injecting a human for hip bursitis. Dr Nichols diagnosed it base on gait and tenderness to palpation over the trochanter in the hip. Now, whether or not this is how things are currently done, I have no clue. He also used an internal blister rather than a steroid. I would assume a vet would be able to differentiate based on flexion and palpation. |
