We used to barrel race but now do performance classes- so the product has to last through the day or able to be given more than once.
In one arena in particular, my mare gets so nervous and worked up that she starts to act out. She will get really quiet, toss her head and crow hop, then starts acting colicy. If I take her to the trailer the colic symptoms resolve and she'll resume eating/drinking in her stall. This has happened twice at this arena, but only in one of their pens. She has become 'hot' at one other arena in one class, but has been fine elsewhere.
