I'm moving to a different state this winter and my horse is currently on a feed thats made locally so I won't be able to get it. The boarding barn I'm moving to feeds most everything purina. Right now my feed is low sugar but moderatley high in starch. What's a good purina feed for a barrel horse running every weekend and getting worked through the week? The horse isn't an easy or hard keeper but he does have a tendancy to get hot so I figured I should stay away from omolene.

What about the Purina Ultium with Gastric Support?

Or Purina Outlast?

My personal choice is Ultium Competition and has been for years.  My horses look and seem to feel great on it.

Currently, most of my horses are on Renew Gold, but the couple that do not have the topline that I want are on Ultium along with the RN.

Right now I have a hard keeper, and even though she looks pretty good, I'm going to experiment with Race Ready GT.  I'll start that feed on Friday, so won't know much for a while.  Ultium has helped her, but I'm striving for more wow factor.

I fed Purina strategy for a long time until the price got so high. My horses did well on it. Now they have it with the outlast gi support built in.

Does anyone know if the Purina Ultium is a fixed formula since those bags have the ingredients printed right on the bag and not a tag. ?

I almost every case. If the ingredients are printed on the bag it is a fixed formula. Years ago all most all premium feeds were fixed formula. Not so today, and not so with Purina in general. That said, if the ingredients are printed on the bag (and none are listed as "byproducts or other vague descriptions", that one product should be a fixed formula.

I feed strategy to everything (babies includes) except for my hard keeper, who gets ultium. I love Purina feeds!
