Location: Where the buffalo roam | I am in banking and we had someone get hold of one of our cashier's Checks and cut and pasted various pieces and made their own. Luckily, a majority of people who received them called to confirm before cashing or depositing. I sugest calling the bank where the check originated anytime. Yes, those are guaranteed funds but not if they are fraud. Most banks will also put a temporary hold on funds over a specific amount if they can't confirm validity up front. I hate theives!! |

Location: Oklahoma | I trust no one (hazzard of working in the legal field) and when someone wanted to use a cashier's check to purchase my horse trailer instead of wire funds, I had my bank talk to their bank directly and verify it was real. The person making the purchase spoke with me several times on the phone and I preferred a wire, but they were financing a portion of the purchase, so their bank refused to wire for their protection that they were actually buying a horse trailer and not being scammed by me, a potential scam seller. I talked to people and my bank was willing to communicate with their bank and give me assurance it was "ok" to go that route. We also had emails between the two bankers. So, you had me making sure the buyer was not a scammer and my bank let their bank know we needed to know they weren't scammers either. Can't be too careful these days. |
