My new pony is only 13.3 hands but he's a little wide. Both my saddles are slipping on him. I was surprised my Bob Marshall treeless was slipping because that has always fit every one of my horses. Then I put my Kelly Kaminski Circle Y on him and that's slipping too. It seems to fit him great. He's green so I don't want to cinch him up too tight and make him cinchy. I didn't have a cinch small enough for him except for a felt cinch I dug out. That may be a factor too. All my pads are fleece or sheepskin of some sort and Tod Slone felt. Can I get some recommedations for a non-slip pad? And by the way, the Kelly Kaminski has leather underneath, not sheepskin. Maybe my pads are too thick. Thanks in advance!

Try a thinner pad and shorter girth. I have a 26" CE Featherlite (featherfles..??!!) and 28" CE roper girth (for the life of me can't remember what they call this one lol).

Are your saddles slipping forward to back or Rolling from side to side? What size seats are your saddles?

When my son had his pony, sounds like his pony and yours is about the same size we used a 24" cinch with a 3/4 inch pad or it may have been a Navjo wool saddle blanket, pretty sure it was the Navajo wool blanket (now that I'm thinking about it), we used this combo with one of my older Bob Marshalls (14") and it worked perfect. Its harder to fit horse size tack on such a small animal, and if you are mounting like you would a normal horse that would cause the saddle to roll I would think, you need to stand on something to get up on the pony.

Define "slipping". Do you mean the saddle is rolling side to side? Or slipping back?

The saddles were slipping side to side. I'm pretty sure they are 15". I was actually wondering about using a Navajo. I use a mounting block even with this pony because I'm really out of shape--haven't ridden in 5 years after breaking my back and I'm 61.

If this is a PONY, I would wonder if your saddles are simply too widefor him. You can try to "pad up" but it might still roll.

I would go with the Navajo as a liner to help with the slipping/rolling, Most of the ropers I know always used a Navajo under their pads, kinda like a shock absorber and it helps wickes the sweat, I liked using them under my pads to help keep the saddle from rolling a bit since it wicks the sweat and makes the pads stay in place because the sweat make it's stick better to keep my saddles in place better.

I guess I'm saying this right, ha ha ha

Edited to add: Maybe trying a BOT pad liner under your pad and see if this might work for you.

He's a wide pony but he IS a pony. He's only 13.3 hands. They seem to fit but that thought ocurred to me also. Are the saddles too wide? I'll get some pictures.

Hmm, he's got a wither. I'll scrutinize that some more.

You can try a SaddleRight. They're highly recommended for treeless saddles. I have one and I love it with my treed saddle

I don't see much of a wither and the bars may need to be flatter than on a normal tree too if the back is wide too.  Too narrow will roll and cause discomfort as well as having to cinch so tight.  He's going to be a challenge to fit but can be done.

I think you're right. The more I scrutinized this (I've haven't had him long) the more I realize he has very little wither. And yes, his back is wide.
