Location: Where ever there's sunshine! | I've been out of horses for 6 years now. Military spouse, babies, school... Anywho, I'm planning on getting back to it in the next couple years, but I feel like a complete newbie. We're now in Arizona hopefully for good and it's a completely different environment. I'm used to having lots of green pasture. How do I feed on dirt lots? I used Renew Gold back when it was almost impossible to get on the east coast. My plan was alfalfa and RG, but it was impossible to get it consistently. So I had yo switch back to a grain feed. Is that a doable feeding plan here? Im open to all the ways. What health issues do you have to watch for out here?? How do their hooves hold up? Please add anything that comes to mind. |

| In AZ you will of course have access to good alfalfa but also other grass hays. I feed TEFF and ALfalfa. Renew gold is a plenty. lol. As for feet, its super dry as you know so their feet get hard pretty quick and stay that way, My farrier moved there from CA and says winter time hardly any abscesses etc because its so dry year round. Just leave some sort of grass hay in front of them 24/7 and add in some alfalfa if you want. |
