Location: the land of dust & sticks | So we have a 40x60. I have a 12ft center aisle running the long length of it. I have a 14x12 tackroom or right side and same size feedroom on left. 1stall 14x24 and 6 14x12. Concrete floor in feed a d tackrooms and aisle. I raised the floor for feed/tack room slightly...maybe 4 in?....so when wind blows rain down aisle it doesn’t go in feed/tack room. I have 1 turnout paddock off the south side of barn and one to the north, then my back 4 stalls open in to field on the backside if I wish. I would have love to have gone bigger with feed, tack, and stalls but the barn kit was on 12’ centers so it was going to be too complicated to adjust. My old barn stalls/feed and tack room were 16x16 and that was much better but we “custom built” that barn to my Moms requests so we could do whatever size we wanted since we were building the rafters and all ourselves. Hope this helps. |

Location: Central Texas | I have a 48x60 building with a 15' batwing on one side for trailer parking, and a 10' overhang on the other side. The center aisle and tack/feed room area are concrete. The center is 16 feet wide. When my mom built a barn many years ago, the builder had built his own barn and highly recommended a 15foot alley way. This ensures you can drive a vehicle (duallys included) through the alley and open the doors to get out easily! On one side I have a 16x20 tack/feed/office/treadmill area (fully inclosed and insulated with ac/heat). Then there is a 10foot roll up door, and another 16x20 shell of a stall that I use for hay storage or the original idea was for show steers if needed. The eave height is 16feet to allow for good air flow down here in south texas. So there is also a big storage area on top of the tack/feed room. On the other side I have 4 roughly 15x25 stalls. The main stall area is 15x15 and then they have the 10ft batwing area too. We are moving at the end of the year to a new house/property and I am rebuilding my barn almost exactly the same. The only difference is the hay storage area will have concrete floor there. And I am making my stalls 12feet wide which will give me 5 stalls on that side of the barn with the same depth. I love my space and big open areas. I can close off all three doors and keep most of the wind out, but most importantly the north wind is completely blocked. |
