Location: Fort Worth / Springtown | I hear you :) On FB, people are not anonymous, I wonder if that has anything to do with it....and also it sends notifications when someone responds, but here, you must check back often, but maybe nobody has responded, yet. Different style, but I still check in, here...I also have a love/hate w/ FB...and I don't do Instagram or Twitter, but probably a lot of people spend their time, there.

| There used to be really good discussions, lots of info shared. My favorites were the feed discussions and ionosphere discussions. Also when Andy would break the girls' runs down during the NFR. He did it so well and I was able to fine tune my eye. Also all the Friday funnies. | |

People DO spend a lot of time on Facebook but it's hard to have indepth conversations like we used to have here. I really miss the old Barrel Horse World. I wish the moderators would ban political and religious threads and let's just talk horse. I see a while back a different category was created for this reason but obviously that didn't work. I come on once in a while and hope that maybe someday it will get active again.

I see it differently. It's not because of "politics". Scroll down the list of threads. What percent of them are political? Most people started using this forum because it was comprised of a group of people with a common passion, very similar values, and similarities in lifestyles. "Barrel racing" was the topic that brought people here, but almost instantly we found a camaraderie that opened up a wide range of activities and discussions. Friendships and relationships began here. Families began here. Help for people in need began here. You get what I'm saying. We talked about horses, barrel racing, rodeo, ranching and farming. We talked about business and finance. We talked about marriage and divorce. We talked about raising a family. We talked about death and the loss of friends and loved ones. We shared jokes and recipes. Basically, the topic of "barrel racing" sprouted into talking about our lives. And yes, often, we talked about politics. Many of us believed that political topics and political trends had a direct impact on everything we hold dear. I don't think it's necessary to point out how political trends and politics in general can make our lives better or worse. In my opinion, nothing has generated more spirited debate and passion than politics, because unless you live in a bubble, or choose to bury your head in the sand, politics is having a big impact on our lives, whether we like it or not. People who can't accept or handle the truth want to isolate themselves from this reality. They want to silence, minimize, or control political discussion. That's why this forum has tried repeatedly over the years to find a "happy medium" by creating isolated political forums, and it has failed miserably over and over again.
I still ride 2-3 horses a day. I still drive a big pickup that sucks fuel like a thirsty camel. I have a few cows. I buy feed, hay, supplements, and medicines. I still love watching the sunsets and sunrises from my porch. I still like learning training tips. Politics effects all these things, and we are bearing witness to the fact that our nation is in rapid decline. All these things we love are in jeopardy. We are looking into the abyss. But for heaven's sake, we mustn't talk politics! We must control the discussion and keep it limited to "the horse".

| I still pop in several times a week to see what's going on. It has gotten a bit stagnant. But one thing I really appreciate is being able to use the search option when I want to research something. Most of the time, it's been discussed here and I prefer the opinions and experiences from folks on here rather than on Facebook. I consider this "old school" and I like old school. | |

As a horseman, and someone who has spent his whole adult life designing feeding programs for horses, this site has been very valuble to me as a place where I can see just what other horse people are having issues with. Cutting through the BS that non-horse owning marketing people blast at us every day is a mission of mine. I hope that this site continues to thrive. It is an important asset of mine to see just what serious horse owners are dealing with.

| I think for me it was the snarkiness of the people replying that made me stop posting or replying. People seem to be very rude and think that there is only one way to do something, Their way. no-one knows everything and all can learn from others but there is a way to approach it, Kindness | |

Give me a topic lmao.
Look people, everyone has a different reason for coming here. Pass it, if you don't like it lol. Don't begrudge others that enjoy laughing or talking or forming friendships. I haven't been here much, but I met the Crazy Old Bat here lol. She knows who she is. I met the biggest Science freak here lol....Alison....I started learning politics here...I read word fights that were totally better than watching TV lol. We spoke about bloodlines, shared our pictures, got to know each other a world away...I know Scott's dog was a Rottweiler named Neva or Nevia lol sorry Scott. I know that poor Lulu had to be on her toes when I was posting and I asked what the record was for deleted posts was one day AND WE BROKE IT lol. That's so much more lol.
This from someone who sends me a Christmas card on my birthday (August) and she calls me a crazy ol' bat ......... LOLOLOLOL

| I try, but it seems like if I ask a question on a post, I get 2 responses, MAYBE. I'm not a thread killer, I seem to be a thread black hole. | |

Chihuahuas!
Well, there was this one time that I broke my arm and had to start taking Effexor because I was trying to cut the cast off my arm....I don't know why I lost my mind, I just did. I will never wear a cast again lmao..... Anyhow, lol, when you start taking an antidepressant there's generally two weeks of what I like to call insanity and diarrhea lol. At least for me, it was no appetite, huge energy, no sleep and the running squirts lol. Everyone knows I have chihuahuas. They are very close to their person or a couple of family members only. I had Tuppy. She was born to me and only loved me lol. So, I broke my right wrist when a weanling ran past me and just hit my hip. I fell on an outstretched hand. Radius fracture at the joint. When the cast was put on me, my mind lost it's ****. I didn't know why. I did actually see a councelor later lol. Just wanted to do anything to get that cast off. Went to the doctor lol. He put me on Effexor and Ativan lol. Within hours of taking the Effexor I was full of energy with one arm in a cast and with watery squirts lmao. So, my Mom, had me try to work the energy out after I hadn't slept in a couple days. Thanks Mom lol. I was push mowing weeds and tough brush around her pecan trees, in a pasture, with my left arm and sweating a lot. I was exhausted at this point. The pasture was behind my home, but a really far walk to get to it. So, there I was, saturated in sweat, using my left hand push mowing much more than just normal grass lol, when I felt that feeling when one is about to loose some bowel . There was no way I was making it to the house. Frantically, I looked for a place to stoop. I saw an old stump from a cutting long ago lol. I ran to it. Peeled my sweat soaked shorts down and sat with my butt hanging off. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I see Tuppy running to me. I'm sure she was worried that I was either leaving her or she was just coming to be closer to me. I yelled at her, "no Tuppy noooooo!" right at the time that the massive propulsion of yellow, watery stool came blasting into the world lmao. Tuppy ran right behind me and was sprayed from head to tail with the yellow liquid. I stood up and tried to left hand pull my shorts up....They were so wet from me sweating in the Louisiana heat that I couldn't get them past my thighs lol. Then, I felt something bite me down there. I let my shorts go and attempted to swat what was biting....more bites lol....I looked down at the stump and it was covered in ants! Shorts around knees, swatting ants with non dominant hand, other arm in cast, dirty and sweaty AND my chihuahua standing there covered in diarrhea lmao. AND, MY MOM AND SISTER LAUGHING SO HARD THAT THEY COULDN'T OR WOULDN'T (who knows lol) come help me. So, I grabbed my shorts and held them around my thighs, big white butt with red ant bites on it, and started walking back to my house with my diarrhea dog lol. I put her in the shower and I joined in with all the clothes still on me lol. Washed us both with one arm while holding the other out of the shower....I left the clothes in the shower lol. Then, Tuppy and I sat on the couch and just slowly turned to look at each other like "what in the **** just happened?" lololol. We vowed to never speak of it again, unless someone on BHW wanted a true story to laugh at lol. The END.

When folks started whining about threads they didn't like instead of just scrolling past many of us left. I check back when catatrophic things happen, like Hurricane Ian...I'll never forget Katrina and the people on here sharing and helping so many. That is the glue that keeps me checking in! I miss the fun times we all had riding the short bus, sharing political views that were 'learning' curves for everyone, religious/cultural discussions...shipwrecks! I'm still friends with people I've met on here...some I've never met in person...18 years later! That's amazing! Blessings to all.
