Location: Where ever there's sunshine! | Okay, Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act. tell me about it. I've been out of the horse world for about 7 years. My mother just sent me somebody's rant about how this HISA group is coming for everyone's horses and going to seize any and all things deemed hirse abuse related.
Now, I did a quick search and I do t see any issues, but wanted to reach out and learn what I can do that I can calm the drama queen that is my mother.
I love her dearly, but if I don't help calm her down she'll blow it to everyone and be all in an uproar over it. After all, if it's on Facebook it must be true, right?!?! |

Location: Montana | From what I have read, to be able to race your horse on a track, you are going to have to register this horse, the property that you live on and the property where said horse will be trained with this group. This then allows this group to come on to your property and go through your things to find if you are inviolation of their rules. One rule that I have heard of is that there will be no injectables allowed on the property. If your vet needs to come give a shot for colic etc, they will no longer be allowed to leave you a bottle of whatever they use to continue the treatment if needed. You will no longer be allowed to give your horse its regular shots fo WN, Rhino and Etc it will all have to be administered by a vet. If they do come on your property and find an injectable, (sounds like it doesnt even matter if its for horses or not) they can take everything from you including your property. I understand people wanting more to be done to help horses in the racing industry from some of the abuse that happens with injections and so forth, but I dont think that it needs to be to the extreme of people losing their homes and farms for doing something as simple as giving a vaccination to their horses. I really feel sorry for the vet industry, they are going to be run ragged with farm calls if this goes through. I am hoping with all the lawsuits against HISA that it will give them more time to get it stopped. |

| Currently, HISA only applies to Thoroughbreds on the race track. |

Thanks! I will have to listen to that one. I know Louisiana and Texas are fighting it and the HISA rules are not being enforced by the stewards in these two states along with a few others. All states have an association called the HBPA (Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Assoc.), that is who is standing up to HISA in the states that have chosen to do so. |
