Location: Illinois | 15-20 years is the max, but they can adjust something and reapply for a new if they want. I just did a full 30 day of generic omeprazole powder, was $85 and scope was clear. So generic worked just fine for me. I've gotten it compounded with sucralfate as well, $22 a tube with 3 doses per tube and it's done just as well. I'd never buy the real thing again. Ulcerguard is also the same thing, you just have to give the whole tube. But it bypasses the need for the Rx if you want to still go with their "brand" |

| Read an article today from a vet at the racetrack. A comprehensive study showed that HALF tube of ulcerguard was just as effective as full tube . Really wish I had read that sooner |

Location: Claremore, OK | There is no generic form of Gastrogard. There is compunded omeperazole. Omeperazole loses a lot of its efficacy once it's wet. The compunded stuff is cheap but doesn't necessarily work. |

I forget the name & threw the tub away, but it was a pharmacy in one of the carolinas. My vet was ordering something for one of hers and just shipped mine with it. But a lot of the pharmacies have it though for around $100. Paste or powder. I know farmvet does, nexgen has it. You just have to have a vet willing to write the Rx |

Years and years ago I had a horse sand colic bad. When we finally got the sand pushed through and the horse stabilized I had to do a 30 day treatment for ulcers. My vet had me do 5 full tubes (5 days), 5 half tubes (10 days), and then 1/4 tube for 18 days. Total tubes = 12. Much less $$'s! The horse came back better than ever and is still doing great at 22. |

Thanks !!! I will try that protocol!! Not even going to run it by my vet because she is totally by the book! I already have the 28 tubes and can't take them back so I will have lots of extras to use in the future |

Location: Willows, CA | I have seen best results and have recommended Gastro Buf from Stance Equine. I did some test and development work on this, but do not sell or profit from it if you buy it. NO omeprasole, easy on the system, and works on hind gut also. |

Location: Texas | I use Nexgen for omeprazole/cimetidine. I just paid $96 shipped for 120 scoops, which is 2 full treatments. I've scoped after using it, so I know it works. I definitely recommend it. |

Location: Claremore, OK | I'm not saying that none of the compunded products work all of the time. They are unreliable and unpredictable, usually good at helping with gastritis, not necessarily ulcers.
As far as Ulcergard getting cheaper when it's off patent, not likely, as it's the delivery system that gets it to the right spot that makes the difference. It's not as simple as dumping Omep in the stomach.
Adequan is a good example of a product being off patent, yet no one can duplicate it ( or wants to because of the expense). There are products that are very close, but not the same molecular structure.
There are usually 15-20 head young horses here that I get to watch what products work and which ones don't. if anyone thinks I'm trying to sell Ulcergard, I don't work for any animal health manufacturers. Please watch the video and listen closely ant around the 5:18 mark .

Yes, I shared it above. It worked on two different horses of mine over the years. Both scoped before and after. |
