| My rodeo finals are at the end of October . It's an 18 hour drive and found out their stalls are on concrete . I do have cloud boots for two of my 3 horses but wasn't looking forward to having to buy a 200.00 pair for the 3rd horse . I've researched stall mats and they are really expensive , bulky , etc . I'm sure it would take dozens of bags of shavings for each horse . I'm really considering just sitting this one out ! Did I miss any other options ? Thanks ! |

| I agree, just take two horses. If you do need to take all three, I've kept mine on concrete before with 3 bags of the good shavings with no problems. I wouldn't let the stalls keep me home. |

| Thanks ! Yes need to take all 3 . No renting of mats..... however my farrier had a good suggestion today . Walmart Carries Eva foam interlocking mats that are like 25.00 for a whole stall. They will NOT last more than a weekend he said but they are cheap enough to throw away when your done ! That's not bad idea! Probably the way I will go . Thanks ! |

I would at least use diapers and duct tape. Those mats you're talking about aren't going to help a 1000# horse. Bed with deep shavings. |

That's a good option to! Would they be slick until they broke up? |

Wet them so they expand |

Thats what I was thinking. Use those as a base. Thanks! THanks for the diaper idea but I do have clouds. Might as well just get a set for my other horse. |

I filled the bag with water and let them expand, then put them down. They were not slick at all. Buy more bags than you think you'll need. I thought a bag would go further than it did. |

Those locking mats work great. We've used them before. Easy to put in the stall and if they aren't damaged you can remove them, wash them off & re use. Best to you at your finals |

Location: Illinois | I use the interlocking foam type mats, they've lasted me years. I put those down and then 3 bags of pellets, puffed out with water for the base and then 2 bags of shavings on top. That was for a 4 day weekend, you could do more/less depending on how nasty your horses are |

Location: NW. Florida | Another option is getting styrofoam sheets cut into 4x6' you would use two in each stall, and you can get them as thick as you'd like. They are not expensive, just throw away when you're done. |

THanks! I wonder if one set is good for one stall. 24 square feet is only a small area. |

you'd have to get more than 1 set, each is 2x2. I have the same ones, just in the multi-color version. I typically do 4-5 per row, depends on the stall size, and then however many rows you need to fill the stall. If I come up short I just center it and let the outer edges be concrete, mine don't typically stand against the walls anyway |

| We rent stall mats. I am sure the facility has a number for a company that rents them. They are already in your stalls when you get there. We put about 3 bags of shavings on top. Works fine. |

| THanks for all the opinions! I'm going with the bedding pellets for the base and regular shavings on top. Most likely cloud boots. THanks! |

Location: Slipping down the slope of old age. Boo hoo. | Before stall mat rental was a thing, I bought those puzzle piece foam mats from Lowe's. They worked great! Of course, they got a few nicks/cuts, but I STILL have them and still occassionally use them for my horse to stand on while tied to the trailer. I've had those things nearly 20 years. |
