My horse can run but is not a free runner. I am not that aggressive of  a rider.. I feed him neutrina Performance now, is there a better feed that would help him run freer.

Horses can only run to their genetic potential. There is no feed or drug that can make them be a faster barrel horse. Personality wise, some horses with the potential to be fast just don't want to use it either. Ive ran horses that could mortaly fly but in a barrel pattern they wanted to be slow and solid. Its just one of those things.

I had a horse that would run like the wind when heading on him, never got outran, But when it came to running barrels he wouldn't run and the more you ask the slower he went.  Would make a perfect, smooth but not a speedy pattern.  I tried everything and he just didn't want to run as hard on the barrels.

Are you riding him in a bit?  I had to switch my gelding to a hackamore to free him up.  I tend to get heavier handed in a run and I think he was anticipating me grabbing that bit at a barrel.  At the time, I was running him in a chain mouth bit, but he's so sensitive.  He is good mix between a push style/free runner - just say Whoa at barrel and he will TURN.  The trick was getting him PAST the barrel before saying WHOA.  I run him in a Jim Warner short shand hackamore and it's made all the difference in the world. Still have plenty of control and bend with the hackamore.  Just my thoughts.
