I have a mini horse in with my full size horses. Currently it is winter time where they are offered additional forage. Some of that forage is an small-ish offering of (stout) second cut alfalfa. How would I go about ensuring the pony doesn't over do it on the alfalfa? Without having to separate them at feeding hopefully.
Trying a hay net today. Free choice grass hay and alfalfa in the net. Maybe it will slow them all down?
Maybe I am over thinking the pony eating the alfalfa as it does eat cubes on occasion also

Mini horses and free choice alfalfa is not a good ideal!!! They will over eat and keep on eating the alfalfa, I would not let the mini have free choice of the alfalfa.. I have two mini's so I really have to watch what they eat and how much.

I have a fat little mini as a companion to my retired gelding.  I only give them hay when they're together.  The gelding gets his

alfalfa in his stall. I only give the mini a tiny bit of low starch low sugar feed.  MIne is older.  I know they'll founder easy so I'm really careful what

I give him.  He would eat himself to death if I let him.
